While growing up, Friendship Day was a day which school kids waited for all year long. Oh, the excitement of running around, tying friendship bands, and professing our love for our best friends! However, as we grew up and got busy with our lives, the excitement faded away. This year, things are different, and Friendship Day 2020 is a day that deserves to be celebrated. Most of us have spent the last four months away from most of the people we love. We’re all locked up in our homes due to the pandemic and haven’t met our closest friends in months! But even with all the distances, we have still managed to keep our friendship strong and that is exactly why we need to celebrate it this year!
When patience breaks and things seem dull, call a friend!
Staying locked up indoors hasn’t just put a pause on our social life, it has also disrupted our personal lives. With the pressure of holding on to our jobs, we’re also managing all household chores, which clearly, we were never used to doing! This has, in fact, resulted in rising tempers and lowered patience for most of us. In situations like these, in the pre-COVID era, we would usually dash out to see our buddies. Now, although we can’t exactly ‘dash out’ any more, we’re still lucky to have our friends available over the phone. Don’t these angels deserve a shout-out this Friendship Day?
Let’s talk birthdays! Till last year, our birthday parties were all about going out to celebrate with our best friends. We went out, ate and drank, shared some great moments, even got some pretty cool gifts, and came back home with our hearts full!

This year? We’re mopey and sad as the Big Day approaches because we can’t do any of those things. Most of us can’t even meet our favourite people! If you can meet, you’ll just be smiling at each other through masks while maintaining distance. Even with all this moping around, most of us have still managed to have an amazing birthday this year. And yes, again, it’s all because of our friends! People are getting together on the internet to make special videos, group calls, and exciting virtual celebratory moments. Isn’t that what friends do?
A friend in need is a friend indeed
With COVID-19 cases in India rising rapidly, it is a sad state of affairs for so many people across the nation. People are in distress over multiple reasons like hospital beds, plasma donations, lack of jobs, reduced income, distance from families, and so much more! Here too, for so many people, friends have been stepping it up to make sure that help is available. They may not be physically present with us, but our friends have been pulling strings over the net to help us get the aid we need.

This year has tested a lot of relationships and our friends are the people who have passed with flying colours. That’s why Friendship Day 2020 is a day that deserves to be acknowledged and celebrated.
It is our moment to tell our friends, “You’re frickin’ awesome and I’m blessed to have you in my life!”
