If you are a regular gym-goer, you’ll see more people working indoors now as the weather gets hotter. There’ll be the Instagrammers capturing every set they do; the wallflowers constantly admiring their abs in the mirror, and the ones with the nasty odor. Don’t be like one of these annoying folks who make working out difficult for others. Follow these 9 basic gym rules to steer clear of nasty glares.

basic gym etiquette

1. Don’t hog the equipment

There’s an unwritten gymming rule — leaving your towel on an equipment doesn’t give you dibs on it. Respect other people’s need to work out as well. Also, you cannot monopolize a station for more than half an hour, especially when others are waiting. Get moving!

2. Respect personal space

We understand the gym is crowded. But don’t be that annoying guy who does his bicep curls uncomfortably close to the other person. Give some breathing room to your workout mates.

3. Don’t be tripe, always wipe

One of the most basic gym rules is to always keep a towel handy for when things get ‘sweaty’. Be nice to the person who has to use the machine after you and don’t leave your pool of sweat unwiped.

4. Did I ask for your advice?

No one likes being told what to do — unless you are their boss. Keep away from the temptation of teaching strangers the right way to exercise. But if you do see someone performing an exercise that puts them at a risk for injury, then flag down a trainer and let them deal with it.

5. Enough with the selfies already

Did you know you can work out without announcing it on Instagram? On a busy day, if you are lounging around the gym clicking selfies, you’ll not only get in the way of others (see point 2 again) but also be a buzzkill for those trying to concentrate.

6. Sir ripped-a-lot wants to flaunt his gains

We know you worked hard to get that six-pack and it deserves to be admired. Check yourself out in the gym mirror all you want, just don’t block another person’s view. Gyms have mirrors installed so people can monitor their exercise.

7. Only Kids Make A Mess

Don’t be a little baby who needs his mom to clean up after him. Pick up that used water cup and throw it in the dustbin. And when you are done with the weights, put them back on the rack, thanks!

8. Have your gossip sessions later

Source

You really should not go on talking on calls all the time while working out, even if you have all the hot gossip! People are not interested in knowing the details and it is really annoying and distracting. So cut down on those phone calls!

9. Keep the singing to yourself

We get it that you enjoy listening to music while working out. But, remember you are at the gym and not in your shower or Indian idol. Keep the singing to yourself and honestly, as much as you think you sound good, it is just in your head!
