Spring is coming soon. So will be the army of ants. They come out of the nooks and burrows and claim all the living space in the house. Tired of ants crawling into everything you own? It’s time to get the big guns ready. Make your own bottle of homemade ant spray to keep those pesky things away before they can invade your home. Here’s how:
1. Peppermint
Ants can’t stand the smell of peppermint. Pour 4-5 drops of essential peppermint oil into half a bottle of water and spritz your house entrance and windows once every day. Or you can just soak peppermint oil in cotton balls and keep them in the corners. Not only will it keep them out, but your house will also smell lovely too.
2. Vinegar
A vinegar spray can remove the chemical trail and deter house ants. Spray a mix of half part vinegar, half part water on kitchen countertops and let it dry out and absorb the vinegar. This spray is also good for cleaning tough spots on the carpets.
3. Borax
Poison the colony naturally with borax and sugar water. The chemical spray will not destroy their nest completely. Just make a paste of borax and sugar dissolved in water and keep it around the corners of your home. Keep away from children and pets as it is toxic.
4. Ground coffee
Don’t throw away your used ground coffee. Put in the open cracks and the ants will never return to that place again. This also works for keeping lizards away.
5. Lemon juice
Acid from lemon juice also confuses the ant tracks. Either squeeze a lemon directly onto the infested area or insert a portable citrus spray to make your very own fresh lemon spray.
6. Water and dish soap
Make your very own cleaning liquid with half a bottle of water and 1 spoon cleaning liquid. It works on ants too. Keep it handy to squirt on any visible ants.
You can also try these things to stop the invasion.
- Keep the ant magnets like a jar of honey or container of sugar over a water dish, so the ants can’t reach it.
- Seal the box of flour tightly after every use and always sweep away the excess flour around it every night.
- If they are invading your almirah, then draw a line of chalk around it. The ants will not cross it.
- Keep peppermint soaked cotton balls inside your cupboard
- Baby powder also does the trick. Sprinkle it around the entrance of your bedroom.
