2022 has been quite a year for entertainment. Be it cinemas or OTT platforms, there was an ocean of content that came out this year–some really good, some shockingly bad. While a few movies were much-awaited due to their star cast, some just had really interesting trailers that got us super excited for the film. But reality doesn’t always live up to the hype. From Ayaan Mukherjee’s Brahmastra (okay, you can disagree but ew) to Marvel Studio’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, these movies were underwhelming AF! Here’s our list of the most overrated movies of 2022, let us know in the comments which ones made it to your list.

1. Brahmastra

Brahmastra by Ayaan Mukherjee has to be the first of the most overrated movies of 2022. Yeah, the cast was absolutely great, and even the visuals were, but sadly, we can’t ignore the botched dialogue writing of this film. It was a much-anticipated movie and Ayaan Mukherjee’s labour of love which did attract a crazy number of people to the cinemas. But in the end, almost everyone left disappointed. After all, who can forget the ‘love storiyaaaan‘ bit? Ugh!

2. RRR

SS Rajamouli, one of the most celebrated and biggest directors of South cinema, released his magnum opus RRR this year. The movie had a power-packed cast, stunning visuals, and a pretty decent storyline. But somehow, it didn’t wow the audience and lacked the oomph factor. RRR was a crowd-puller but turned out to be quite underwhelming for a lot of people.

3. Liger

Vijay Deverkonda has the ability to single-handedly make any movie a total hit, but sadly, Liger was not just overrated and underwhelming, but the story was also sickeningly bad. There was no hope for the movie from the beginning and throwing in Ananya Panday as the classic rich, bratty girl couldn’t do much for it either. The story of a “crossbreed” who wants to become an MMA fighter could have easily been a masala movie, but this one was more acid reflux.

4. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was one of the most awaited movies of 2022 and Chadwick Boseman’s demise only made the audience more emotional and eager for the release. And even though it brought out the emotions, the film could not live up to its prequel.

5. Jurassic World: Dominion

The Jurassic World series has been a source of entertainment and great fictional work for ages. So, when the last chapter of the series was announced, people did lose their shit. It’s a cult favourite movie series and the cast has done a fabulous job in every single one of the movies. But, somehow, Jurassic World: Dominion did not leave the kind of impact the other movies in the series did. It was all over the place and could have been a stellar climax to the series, but this movie just didn’t do what it should have as the final chapter.

6. Ek Villain Returns

Ek Villain has been one of the biggest hits of Bollywood with an amazing story and a great cast. So, when the sequel to Mohit Suri’s hit came out, people were flocking to the cinemas. But Ek Villain Returns neither had the cast nor the storyline to pull it off. Even though Bollywood biggies John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Tara Sutaria, and Disha Patani were the main leads, this is one of the most overrated movies of 2022 and made us go WTF.

7. Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan, Akshay Kumar’s big project to empower women sadly came across as highly misogynistic and regressive. Because when the lead character is a guy who sells special golgappas for pregnant women to birth only male offspring, you know the movie is going to be absolute trash. And it was. Period. So, the only raksha we need is from such movies in the future.

8. JugJugg Jeeyo

JugJugg Jeeyo is one of the most overrated movies of 2022 and proves that sometimes even getting big names in the movie can’t make it worthy of the audience’s appreciation. And even though the actors did a fine job, and the music was catchy, the movie just didn’t deliver. It had the same stereotypical jokes and over-the-top family drama with nothing new to offer.

9. Gehraiyaan

Honestly, the star cast of Gehraiyaan gave us full millennial vibes with an artistic storyline and the trailer made sure it got the attention of the audience. With Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday, and Dhairya Karwa as the main leads, you would expect the movie to make some sense. But this was one of the biggest disappointments of 2022 that left everyone confused and underwhelmed. The only decent thing about this movie is the soundtrack ’cause everything else pretty much went dooobey.
