For the past few months, our social lives have been pretty much non-existent and, going by the current scenario, that’s not going to change soon. While we may be missing our regular outings, there are several people who had specific events planned for this time of the year. Like, weddings.
We’re making the most of the situation by getting on video calls with our family and friends, but there are some who are going a step further by having ‘Quarantine Weddings’. Hosting your wedding at home might seem impossible, even illogical for some. The new normal, however, demands that we re-think all social occasions. In fact, social media is flooded with pictures of weddings at home and loved ones in virtual attendance. So, if you too are thinking of having a wedding at home, we have some tips to help you make it work.
1. Firstly, be sure you want a small wedding at home
Most people have detailed plans for what they want their wedding to be, so if you’re going ahead with a smaller wedding, be sure you really want it and won’t regret it later. You can always delay the wedding to next year and have a grand celebration when that’s feasible.

2. Pick the right wedding outfit
Now that you’re sure about having a wedding at home, let’s get down to your look! Most couples usually plan their wedding outfits months in advance to get it just right. However, if you don’t have something special at hand, think about the gorgeous outfits in your wardrobe and pick your favourite.
Here’s a tip: If you can get your hands on your mother’s vintage sarees and jewellery, there’s truly nothing better than that!

3. DIY your wedding decor
We know planning wedding decor is not easy, especially when you have to make a home look like a wedding venue. With social distancing norms in place, you can’t have a team of decorators in your home either. But there are ways to make your home look cosy and inviting for your dream day – all with items available under your roof!
Use colourful sarees, dupattas, or stoles, to drape the walls and add an elegant backdrop for pictures. In addition, you can even bring in some scented and floating candles, old fairy lights, and bangles, for aesthetics. Add some greenery and happy vibes by bringing in your outdoor plants.

4. Plan a sangeet
No wedding is ever complete without a dance party with your best friends! You might be in geographically different locations, but you aren’t too far to have a good time together. Set up a playlist of songs that not only make you go ‘London thumakda‘, but also remind you of the time you let your hair down with your favourite people. Can we please suggest the song Gallan Goodiyaan from Dil Dhadakne Do? By the way, have you checked out our DDD quiz yet?

5. Some wine and dine, please!
Just because you’re having a small wedding, it doesn’t mean that you don’t get to eat good food! Several restaurants have now restarted food delivery which could come in super handy for you! However, if you have that a hidden chef in you, we suggest trying some of our favourites for the main course, desserts, and summer drinks that can be easily prepared at home?

6. And finally, bring in the Baraatis and Gharaatis!
Not literally, of course! But there are several group video-calling apps available out there to help you get multiple people on call at the same time. Use multiple devices to get in as many people as you want to join in on your dance party and the wedding.
