Haldi is one of the important functions of a traditional Indian wedding. As much as the ceremony promises a good facial for both the bride and groom, it can stain their skin. And we are sure you don’t want to look like a Simpson at your wedding, right? In some cases, the turmeric and chickpea paste mixed with oil triggers acne and other sensitive skin conditions. So, how can you avoid the yellow stain on your Haldi ceremony without disrespecting the ritual?

You can’t skip the ceremony but you can convince your family to follow better approaches. Here are all the ways to celebrate your haldi without getting that yellow stain on your big day.

1. Finding the right one

You’re already marrying the right one, but you must also find the right haldi paste for your skin. Don’t go for turmeric with added colours. Instead, grind organic turmeric and mix it with milk to cancel out the staining effect.

2. Besan paste > Haldi

Indian moms are all about homemade skincare, right? It’s time to pull an UNO reverse on them. Convince them to use a besan paste instead of typical haldi to perform the auspicious ritual. If besan suits your skin, mix it with some curd or milk to get the haldi look without getting stained. You can also add some rosewater to the paste for a nice fragrance. Don’t let the paste dry on your skin for hours as it might get difficult to remove it later.

3. Fake it till you make it

This is one of the best ways to avoid stains on your Haldi ceremony. Save everyone the effort of making a haldi paste from scratch and save yourself from that yellow stain. You can get a readymade ubtan face mask from a trusted skincare brand. With the turmeric-like colour, everyone in the room will easily buy into it.

4. Sandalwood or Multani Mitti

If you don’t want pale skin on your wedding day, go for sandalwood or a multani mitti (fuller’s earth) paste. These ingredients are infused with natural minerals, acting as exfoliators. This way, you can have a fun skincare session disguised as a Haldi ceremony.

5. Do your homework

If your family wants to abide by tradition strictly, follow these tips to avoid the stain on your skin. Make sure you cover your nails with double coats of nail paint. Apply Vaseline or oil to your scalp to avoid getting a yellow head. Moreover, apply a layer of oil-based moisturiser on your hands and feet before the function. This will easily remove the paste without leaving a yellow stain.
