Let’s face it, raging in a club is really tedious and difficult, especially on New Year’s Eve. Who wants to step into an already packed-beyond-capacity club and push your way to the bar only to be left hanging for the next 30 minutes? Not us, for sure. Because there are far more interesting things to do on New Year’s Eve.

Whether you’re alone on December 31st or hanging out with friends and family, there is a lot you can do to make it memorable. Here are a few suggestions for things to do on New Year’s Eve to make the end of this decade really special.

How To Save On Travel In 2023, According To A Flight Deals Expert

1. Travel with friends or family. Or alone

The end of the year is a great time to travel to new places. You’ll meet people from various countries in every tourist spot, and you may end up making new, really interesting friends. Plan a trip for a few days to escape the madness of the city. If you can’t travel with friends or family, go alone. Solo trips are not only great fun, they can also be therapeutic. 2. Host your girls for a ladies’ night in

Why go out when you can stay in? Call the girls and plan a whole night of activities at home. You can do karaoke, play drinking games, watch movies, talk about the good old days, plan card and board games, and so much more. The best part is that no one will need to stay sober to make sure everyone else gets home okay. The next day, when you all wake up, go out for a sunny New Year’s Day brunch.

3. Binge-watch classics you’ve never seen but always wanted to watch

This is easily one of the most cost-effective and culturally enriching ways to spend New Year’s Eve. We all have those films on our lists which are timeless and recommended by the world. But we never really get around to watching them. Use this New Year’s Eve to change that, and go into 2024 feeling a little more accomplished and worldly.

4. Check into a wellness spa and resort

We could all do with a little self-care now and then. Why not take some time off at the end of the year to check into a wellness retreat and pamper yourself? Detox, rejuvenate and spend some quality time with yourself to start the new decade with a fresh mind and body.

5. Clean your whole house so that you wake up in a squeaky clean place in 2024

If you don’t want to leave home, you can detox in a simpler, much cheaper manner. Go into spring cleaning mode and rearrange everything in your house. Clean all the drawers and cupboards, change the linens, throw away the junk you’ve been collecting all year, put fresh flowers in your vases, and treat yourself with wine at the end of it. When you wake up on January 1st, you will feel unprecedented joy when you look around your sparkling home.

6. Donate your time and your money

It’s never too late to do a good deed. Volunteer at a charitable organisation and help them plan something special for New Year’s Eve. You can also donate the money you would’ve spent on a night out. There are a lot of ways to use your time to help the needy. All you need to do is a quick Google search. If you want to donate your clothes, but don’t know how, click here for a list of NGOs that you can contact.

7. Start 2024 with a glorious meal, host a family dinner with a potluck

The end of the year is a great occasion to have a family reunion. Host the party at your place, but get everyone to bring one homecooked dish which is their speciality. This way, everyone gets a homecooked, delicious meal and you don’t have to stress yourself with cooking for so many people. To make sure everyone gets a hearty helping, tell your guests that they should bring a main course dish and that you’ll provide the snacks and beverages.

8. Book a farmhouse, and call your oldest friends for an epic reunion

One of the most fun things to do on New Year’s Eve is plan a mini-escape. Book a farmhouse in the city, and call all your friends for a party. You can all stay the night, or wrap up and go home after the celebrations. Use the gardens and open spaces for decorations. Since it might be too cold to be outside the whole time, use the indoor space to create a cosy area with food.

9. Play a Year In Review game with your kids

You will need to do some planning in advance for this game. On the 31st night, get your kids to recall the best moments of 2023 and make a memory board with them. Not only will this be a super cute game to play with family, but it will also give your kids something tangible to cherish from this experience.

10. As the clock strikes 12, sleep!

Nothing comes close to the joy of a full night’s sleep. Wake up refreshed early on January 1st. Enjoy the absolute peace and quiet around you, since everyone will be asleep after partying all night. Make this a day to remember by watching the first sunrise of 2024 with a loved one, or alone. Now, that would be an epic Instagrammable moment.

Have you made your New Year’s Eve plans yet?
