1. Manali, Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh is one of the best states for solo travellers to explore and Manali is one of the most popular destinations within the state. It is a beautiful getaway from your daily routine and offers gorgeous views, adventure sports, delicious food, and many options to relax. From paragliding and trekking to skiing and much more, if you’re an adventure junkie, Manali is going to be your heaven. And you can also explore the villages around the area and check out the temples for a scintillating experience.

How to reach: The best and most convenient way to reach Manali is by road. You can get a direct bus to Manali which will take you about 12-13 hours and cost you about ₹1,000. But if you want something more comfortable, you can get a direct flight to Kullumanali and then take a cab to reach Manali which will easily cost you  ₹10,000.

Where to stay: You can get Airbnbs and hotels within your budget. If you’re looking for economical options, look for stays on a sharing basis that will cost you about ₹2,000-₹5,000.

Things to do: Paragliding, skiing, rafting, trekking, and sightseeing

Places to explore: Solang Valley, Manali Sanctuary, Museum of Himachal Culture and Folk Art, and Hadimba Devi Temple

2. Ladakh

Ladakh has made it to the list of favourite places for solo travellers in recent years. The breathtaking view, serene valleys, and Buddhist culture will make you fall in love with the place. So, if you’re looking for safe travel destinations for women that offer you a memorable experience, bookmark Ladakh for your next trip.

How to reach: The fastest way to travel to Ladakh is to take a flight to Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport. This will cost you around ₹5,000 but it is the most convenient and time-saving mode of travel. Another way to travel is to take the bus but it can easily take 24-36 hours to reach and you will need to change the bus at Keylong. This will cost you about ₹1,500.

Where to stay: If you are looking for a budget-friendly stay, hostels are your best bet. You can get a decent room starting from ₹700 and it will go up as per your requirements. You can also look for home stays or guest houses that are affordable starting from ₹1,500.

Things to do: Snow leopard spotting, camping, bike tours, and visiting monasteries

Places to explore: Changla Pass, Thiksey Monastery, Zanskar Valley, and Dras War Memorial

3. Kashmir

If you haven’t been to Kashmir, this is your sign to book your tickets and explore heaven on earth. The picturesque valleys will leave you mesmerised and in awe of this stunning place. And you can also explore the local market for some of the best pashmina wool products and traditional jewellery. Other than that, it is famous for its shikara rides, river rafting, and more.

How to reach: Travelling to Kashmir by flight is a pretty popular and convenient way of getting there. You can get a flight directly to the Srinagar Airport which will cost you under ₹5,000. You can also get a bus from Jammu to Srinagar which will take you about 7-8 hours and will cost you under ₹1,000.

Where to stay: Kashmir comes on the expensive side for solo travellers and getting a hotel room is the best option for a comfortable stay. You can also check out home stays starting from ₹5,000 with gorgeous views and all necessary amenities.

Things to do: Mountain biking, shikara riding, gondola riding, skiing, and more

Places to explore: Dal Lake, Sonamarg, Chashme Shahi, Gulmarg, and Mughal Gardens

One of the highest producers of coffee in India, Coorg is a beauty that you just can’t miss out on. It is one of the safest travel destinations for women to explore in India. From enchanting sights to lip-smacking food, this is a great place if you’re looking for a rejuvenating and peaceful getaway. And if you’re a nature lover, you are in for a treat in Coorg.

How to reach: You can get a flight to Mangalore International Airport which is the closest since Coorg doesn’t have an airport. You can get a bus or taxi from there to reach Coorg and the total trip will cost you about ₹10,000-11,000. But if you’re planning to travel on the train, it will take you about 2 days and the nearest station is in Mysore since Coorg doesn’t have a railway station as well. This will cost you about ₹1,500.

Where to stay: There are a lot of great options to stay in Coorg and you can easily find transport to travel within the town. From hostels to budget-friendly hotels and guest houses, you can find something within ₹1,000-₹5,000 easily.

Things to do: Camping, sightseeing, exploring coffee estates, rock climbing

Places to explore: Raja’s Seat, Abbey Falls, Dubare Elephant Camp, and Tadiandamol Peak

5. Udaipur

Another one of the safest travel destinations for women and solo travellers within the country is Udaipur. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions and is nestled in the beautiful Aravalli Hills. So, if you’re looking for an upbeat, fancy, and lavish trip, Udaipur will not disappoint. You can explore the picturesque forts, stunning lakes, cultural museums, and much more.

How to reach: You can easily get a direct flight to Maharana Pratap Airport which will cost you about ₹4,000. Another way to travel to Udaipur is to travel via train which will take about 12-13 hours but is relatively cheaper and will cost you under ₹1,500.

Where to stay: Since Udaipur is a lavish tourist spot, you can splurge a little on your stay and check out some amazing havelis, hotels, boutique homes, and guest houses that will start from about ₹5,000-6,000 a night.

Things to do: Explore forts and temples, horse and camel riding, walk to heritage parks, and trekking

Places to explore: Lake Pichola, Bagore Ki Haveli, Lake Palace, and Saheliyon Ki Baari

These safe travel destinations for women have been recommended by Jinali, a travel blogger who runs her own blog. Over the years, she has discovered some surprising accounts of travelling in certain parts of India that are breathtaking and perfectly safe for solo female travellers. So, if you’re looking for more such information and places to explore, you can get in touch with her on Travel Stories By Us.

Most of us have a hazy understanding of post-traumatic stress disorder, sometimes known as PTSD. It's possible that one has gone through or seen something like this. PTSD can be brought on by terrifying scenarios like war, sexual assault, and life-threatening situations. We spoke with Dr. Era Dutta, a mental health expert, to get her opinion on post-traumatic stress disorder and how to recognise its symptoms and work towards recovery from it. - @abookaholicarts, Features Writer

#EveOfTheMoment: @bawrijogan shares her story with us

I have loved dancing since I was a kid and started learning Kathak at 8. But as time passed, I lost touch with dancing.

In 2017, the spark rekindled when I watched dance reality shows. But this time, I found a new love - belly dancing. I learnt belly dancing through TV, YouTube and Instagram.

Belly dance is a non-conventional art form that society doesn’t accept without judgements. But my father, sister and brother-in-law supported and encouraged me to follow my passion.

At first, I was apprehensive about belly dancing because I was conscious of my body and skin. I didn’t fit the standards society has for a belly dancer. But the more I practised, the more I fell in love with the art form.

In 2021, I decided to learn belly dancing professionally. Back then, I had a hard time where getting out of bed was also a chore. However, belly dancing helped me deal with it all. It helped me grow confident and embrace my body and skin condition - vitiligo.

Soon, I started teaching belly dance, conducting workshops and even had a chance to do a dance project with my teacher recently.

For me, belly dancing is like meditation. It takes me to a different zone where I can express my feelings, be it sorrow or happiness, and I feel at peace. It is all about expressively channelising my emotions.

A one-night stand's primary notion is to have a pleasurable, casual night of sex and then never see each other again. When you make the decision to let your hormones rule over, an automatic fire develops. It's nothing to be ashamed of, despite the fact that many people might judge others for having a one-night stand. You will benefit greatly from owning your sexuality and taking the bull by the horns. Others find it difficult to have a little fun with a stranger, while others do. Let's find out whether one-night stands are your thing. - Madam Eve

The world is just healing from the impact of one of the deadliest viruses in recent times and the memories are still pretty fresh. So, Anubhav Sinha’s attempt with Bheed is commendable. The movie showcases thousands of migrants going back to their villages on foot post the Covid curfew announcement. From cycling to being stuffed in trucks, trollies, or any other available vehicles, people were desperate to get back home. But the harsh reality loses its impact in the storytelling with too many great ideas tied together loosely. Here is our review of Bheed starring Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar, Dia Mirza, Ashutosh Rana, Kritika Kamra, and Pankaj Kapur.
