Singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, died on May 31, hours after a concert in Kolkata. KK’s sudden death at the age of 53 has shocked his fans across the world who have loved his songs for years now. From Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai to Beete Lamhein, KK’s songs managed to touch the hearts of listeners of every generation.
For desi ’90s kids everywhere, KK was the voice of all our crushes, heartbreaks, and nostalgic moments. Among his most popular songs have been the heartbreaking Tadap Tadap Ke from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, the soulful Khuda Jaane from Bachna Ae Haseeno, and the emotional Tu Jo Mila from Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Of course, these songs form a small part of his towering career which spanned various Indian languages. The singer started his career in music by singing jingles across 11 languages before being recognised for his talent. And with his very first album, Pal, KK made it clear that he was going to be an integral part of the Indian music industry.
In a 2018 interview with Hindustan Times, KK said, “I always wanted to be a musician and not just a playback singer. I thought that maybe I will sing in Bollywood for one year, and then I will compose for myself as a singer-songwriter. But I was really enjoying the kind of songs I was getting. So, that one year changed to 22 years. I just cannot fathom how time flies.” He had also spoken about working on a new album in the same interview.
