High heeled shoes look gorgeous, don’t they? But they can really hurt. Whether they’re pumps or stilettoes, these beautiful devils can wreak havoc on your feet. Many of us resort to wearing flats because the pain of high heels just feels too much to handle. We’ve all tried to figure out how to make high heels comfortable with cotton stuffed in the shoes or band-aids wrapped around our feet. The pain, however, always comes back with these temporary measures.

What if we told you that there are ways to get the same stunning look of a pair of high heels without the agony that comes with it? Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Well, it’s reality. Here’s how to make high heels comfortable and wear them with style.

1. Stretch them out with a pair of thick socks

When you buy a new pair of high-heeled shoes, stretch them out at home. Whether it’s for a night out or for regular workwear, take a day to wear them around the house with a pair of thick socks. This will ensure that your shoes don’t feel uncomfortably tight at any point. The thick socks will make room for your feet in the new shoes.

2. Avoid thin heels

Stilettoes may look beautiful but they’re not practical for everyone. Instead of pencil thin heels, wear a thicker heel or shoes with platforms. The arch of your foot won’t be too stressed with a front platform, and thicker heels will be easier to walk in. Thicker heels also give the added comfort of sufficient balance.

3. Tape your third and fourth toes together

This is a tried and tested hack that works for some people but doesn’t for others. Nevertheless, it’s worth a shot. Using regular tape, tie your third and fourth toes together, counting from the big toe. This technique is supposed to ease the pressure on the ball of your foot, making it more comfortable to wear high heels.

4. Wear a slightly smaller heel

The difference of an inch may not be visible to most people, but it will mean a lot for your comfort. If a 4-inch heel feels uncomfortable, try a slightly smaller, 3-inch heel. This could make a world of difference in your ability to walk normally in your shoes. And it won’t even affect the desired result of wearing high heeled shoes.

5. Don’t compromise on the quality on your shoes

Instead of running after bargains, spend a little extra and buy a good quality pair of shoes. The wrong material may cut into your skin or tighten your shoes after being exposed to natural elements. To ensure this doesn’t happen, buy shoes, especially high heels, from trusted brands only. You should also take your time to know which material and shoe shape suits you and which doesn’t.

Try these simple measures to make your feet happy in high heels. Do you have any tried and tested answers to the age old question of how to make high heels comfortable? Tell us about them.
