In the time of social media, one thing that works is virality and trends. Everyone loves to go viral and follow trends. And sometimes, following social media trends is not the best thing, to say the least. Once upon a time, TikTok was all the rage, and now Reels has taken centrestage. So, here are some of the worst Instagram trends that we saw in 2022 that made us want to throw our phones at the walls.

1. The “Tu Aaja” track

Bollywood loves to take classic songs and ruin them by remixing them. Reels just take it a notch higher by worsening it. The Tu Aaja trend is no different. Influencers and celebrities alike have jumped on the bandwagon grooving to the song. To say that listening to the song on repeat is irritating is an understatement.

2. The “tununu” annoyance

Everybody and their ancestors did this trend, and well, so did we. Sure, the track gave us a headache and made us want to tear our hair off, but we wanted the views as well, IYKYK.

3. The autotuned Titanic track

Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On is a classic and every romantic still loves it. Unfortunately, the reel gods decided to slow it down and autotune it to make the audience hate it, just to get 100K views.

4. The “Go down deh” track

The only thing going down after watching tons of these videos is a shiver down our spine, a shiver of sheer frustration and exasperation. This 2022 Instagram trend needs to go down this year itself. We can’t afford to take it into the new year.

5. The “calm down” trend

Well, they really need to calm the eff down on this trend, ‘coz it’s getting a little too much now. All these “Calm Down” reels are getting us a little hyper and not in a good way. We really do hope that this Instagram 2022 trend won’t make a comeback in 2023.

6. The “Nach Punjaaban” trend

When the promotions for JugJugg Jeeyo got out of hand, so did the Nach Punjaaban trend. And, we gotta have a word with the choreographer. Was he trying to do a naagin dance or a Punjabi wedding dance? Also, people, when driving, kindly focus on driving, not making reels!

7. The “Waalking” trend

The dialogue by Tejasswi Prakash from Naagin 6 about walking at midnight took off like wildfire and found a new life on reels. The actor’s accent is a mood kill and the resulting reel trend is no different. We hope trends like these die their peaceful death in 2022 and we can move on to better things next year.

8. The “Kachcha Badam” trend

Come at me all you want, but one of the cringiest Instagram trends of 2022 was the Kachcha Badam trend. This was probably the time one wished to go back to the Stone Age when social media and phones didn’t exist because that was the only way you could escape this torture.
