The Family Man Season 1 recap

Season 1 introduces us to Srikant Tiwari, an intelligence officer who works for TASC. On the surface, he’s an ordinary middle-class husband and father. But secretly, he’s responsible for preventing major terror attacks across the country. At home, things aren’t great for him. We watch Srikant navigate high-stakes counter-terrorism operations whilst simultaneously dealing with his daughter’s impending school suspension and his wife Suchitra’s growing frustration with his constant absences. Srikant is constantly trying to balance his risky job and his family life, and he’s not succeeding at either.
The main plot of Season 1 revolves around Mission Zulfiqar, a planned terror attack involving a network of local extremists working with foreign handlers. The show explores how these groups operate — recruitment, funding, ideology and the personal stories behind those who join. Among them is Moosa Rahman, a highly trained operative. His cold, calculated behaviour gives the season its sense of urgency. As Srikant and his partner JK Talpade investigate, they travel across cities, interrogate suspects, and slowly uncover a plan to release toxic gas in Delhi. But the terrorists change their plan. Instead of transporting nerve gas, they decide to cause an industrial gas leak at Orion Chemicals, mimicking the Bhopal Gas Tragedy but in Delhi.
Eventually, TASC locates the gas facility. The season ends on a devastating cliffhanger: toxic gas is actively leaking into Delhi. Meanwhile, Srikant’s personal life has fractured. Suchitra and Arvind go on a work trip to Lonavala. Dhriti lies and goes to a late-night party, and young Atharv discovers his father’s secret gun.
The Family Man Season 2 recap

Season 2 opens with Srikant trying to quit the intelligence world completely. He takes a corporate job, hoping a stable routine will fix things at home. But he hates the job almost immediately, and it becomes clear that running away from TASC won’t magically fix his marriage. Meanwhile, the season’s antagonists are Sri Lankan Tamil rebels. The most striking character this season is Raji, a quiet, disciplined rebel operative with an extremely painful past. She lost her father and brother to Sri Lankan government attacks. She was gang-raped by the Sri Lankan army before being rescued by Bhaskar. Working at a factory in Chennai, she faces daily sexual harassment from her employer, Nanda. When Nanda blackmails her, Raji kills him, and this establishes her as someone capable of extreme violence.
The plan is that the rebels will fly a plane packed with explosives into the venue where Prime Minister Basu and Sri Lankan President Rupatunga are holding bilateral talks in Chennai. Raji, being a trained pilot, is essential to the mission. As the threat grows, JK reaches out to Srikant for help with the case. Frustrated with his corporate existence and sensing his marriage is beyond repair anyway, Srikant quits his IT job and rejoins TASC. The investigation centres on Chennai, where TASC teams up with local police. Srikant eventually pieces together the rebel plot. TASC discovers that the rebels are planning to use a small aircraft for the attack. They track Raji down and capture her, but the victory is short-lived.
In a brutally violent sequence, Sajid and rebel leader Selva attack the police station where Raji is being held, freeing her. During the chaos, TASC officer Milind is killed, and JK is shot by Raji while trying to escape. Then Sajid makes it personal. He kidnaps Dhriti, ordering Srikant to stay away from the rebel mission. The rebels, meanwhile, dismantle their plane and transport it in a truck to a new base at Kicha farms. Raji is injured and needs treatment, but Selva prepares her for the suicide mission, telling her that her sacrifice will reinvigorate their movement.
Srikant races back to Mumbai, rescues Dhriti from Sajid’s hideout, and kills Sajid in a firefight. Meanwhile, TASC traces the rebels to Kicha farms. Srikant and the team launch an assault on the rebel base. Srikant engages in a brutal fistfight with Selva, killing him just as Raji boards the plane. She takes off with TASC agents in pursuit, firing at the aircraft until it explodes mid-air. The bilateral talks proceed safely, and TASC is awarded medals for their bravery.
Back home, Suchitra is about to tell Srikant about what happened in Lonavala with Arvind when the screen cuts to black. We never learn what she says or how Srikant reacts. The season ends with a teaser for Season 3: during the COVID-19 pandemic, a Chinese spy in Kolkata receives permission to launch “Project Guan Yu,” suggesting the next threat will involve China and potentially India’s northeastern states.
If the hype is anything to go by, The Family Man Season 3 is going to impress us with its plot, tension, and newly introduced characters of Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur.
