Who doesn’t love a good facial? There’s something so soothing about sitting down for a facial and knowing that you’re going to come out on the other side with a fresh, clean feeling. But with the pandemic, most of us are scared to step into salons or call our personal beauticians to the house. However, with Valentine’s Day almost here, and offices on the verge of reopening, many are now fretting over their skincare plans. While we can’t promise you the neck and back massage that comes with the facial, we can definitely teach you how to give yourself a salon-style treatment. Follow these seven steps to give yourself a facial at home.
1. Cleanse

The first step in a facial routine is to clean your face thoroughly. Remove any and all makeup residue, creams, and even your day-old kajal. Having a clean surface for a facial is the most important thing to focus on as you don’t want a risk of reactions.
2. Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the process of using a scrub to gently massage your face to remove dead skin, blackheads, and all other forms of impurities. Exfoliation also helps clean your pores and stimulates blood flow in your skin. However, it must be noted here that you should choose your scrub wisely, according to your skin’s level of sensitivity.

3. Massage

A massage is probably the best step in the facial process. It increases blood circulation and helps soothe the stress lines by calming your nerves. With the right massage technique, you can actually release the pent-up stress and the consequent signs of ageing from your facial muscles. Just remember to massage in an upward circular motion.
4. Steam (Optional)

Although steaming is an optional step, it is highly recommended. Steaming helps your pores breathe and prepare to absorb the mask and toner that follow. Additionally, the heat from the steam helps the skin relax and regain its moisture quotient. If you don’t have steaming equipment at home, you can simply boil water, lean over it, and inhale the steam from it.
Note: Be careful to not get too close to the steam as it could cause burns.
5. Mask

Once you’ve cleansed, scrubbed, massaged, and steamed, it is now time for the mask. Apply your favourite face mask and let it sit till it dries out. Face masks are rich in nutrients and vitamins to help revitalise your skin. Choose the right one according to what your skin needs.
6. Tone

After all the heavy-duty work that your skin undergoes, it needs a toning step to help calm the activated nerves. A good toner or serum will seal the pores and soothe any redness that you may get from scrubbing.
