They’re better than most commercially available scrubs and are more authentic. Homemade body scrubs are also a quick home solution for those busy, hectic days. So, it doesn’t matter if you’ve run out of your favourite scrub. These homemade body scrubs are going to save your day and leave your skin feeling healthy and gorgeous.

1. Brown sugar scrub

This is one of the easiest two-ingredient scrubs you can make at home anytime. It is inexpensive, the ingredients are easily available, and is a great exfoliator for people with sensitive skin.

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup oil – jojoba, grapeseed, coconut, olive or almond oil

3-4 drops essential oil (optional)

Method:

In a bowl, mix brown sugar with oil till it comes to your desired consistency. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil for a little fragrance. Use as much as you need all over your body, and store the rest in a jar or container to use later.

2. Coffee scrub

The antioxidants present in coffee are known to fight cellulite and help in preventing premature ageing. It exfoliates and hydrates the skin, and the smell of coffee also provides a soothing experience.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup ground coffee

1/3 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup sugar

2-3 drops essential oil

Method:

Mix coffee grounds, sugar, and oil together till they form a smooth consistency. Add essential oils, and mix again before applying the scrub on your body.

3. Green tea scrub

Green tea not only benefits your health, but it also benefits your skin. It exfoliates the skin and cleans pores, making the skin supple and hydrated.

2 tsp sugar

4 tbsp green tea

2 tbsp honey

Method:

Add sugar, honey, and green tea in a bowl, and mix well till it comes to a smooth consistency. Scrub it all over the skin, and wash off with lukewarm water.

4. Salt, oatmeal and honey scrub

Salt is a great ingredient in a body scrub for people with oily skin. It makes the skin more elastic and reduces the appearance of cellulite.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup salt

1/3 cup honey

1/3 cup oatmeal

1/3 cup powdered milk

1/3 cup olive, jojoba, or almond oil

Method:

Add all the dry ingredients in a bowl, and mix them with oil till you get a smooth paste. Apply it on your body, and make just enough for one use as it spoils within a week.

5. Brown sugar and banana scrub

Banana is extremely hydrating and nourishing for the skin. Along with brown sugar, it exfoliates your skin leaving it silky smooth.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup organic brown sugar

1 whole banana

Method:

Cut the banana in small pieces, and add them to a bowl along with brown sugar. Smash both using a spatula till you get a fine paste. Use as much you need, and store the rest in the refrigerator.

6. Honey, lemon and sugar scrub

Honey and lemon have properties that remove excess oil and impurities from your skin, making it look cleaner and healthier. It also moisturises the skin deeply, and lemon reduces the appearance of any dark patches.

2 cups sugar

1-2 tbsp coconut oil

2-3 tbsp honey

4 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon

Method:

Add all the ingredients in a bowl, and mix well till the texture becomes a little smoother and the sugar is not as coarse. Use the scrub, and wash it off with lukewarm water to remove any residue.

7. Tomato and sugar scrub

Tomato is another ingredient that helps with dark patches on the skin. It also helps in getting supple and soft skin, removes impurities, and cleanses the skin thoroughly.

1 tomato, roughly chopped

1/2 cup sugar

Method:

Put the tomatoes in a bowl, and add sugar. Use a blender very lightly, and mix until it reaches a sand-like consistency. Use the scrub to exfoliate your skin and wash it off with cool water.

8. Yogurt scrub

Yogurt has some of the best cleansing properties and is beneficial for your skin and hair. It nourishes the skin and increases elasticity.

1/2 cup yogurt

1/3 cup olive oil

1 cup granulated sugar

Method: 

Add all the ingredients in a bowl, and mix till they form a smooth paste. Apply and massage it all over your body. Once you are done, wash it off with lukewarm water.

9. Peppermint sugar scrub

Peppermint cools the skin and reduces inflammation. It is perfect for when your skin is acting up a lot and needs an easy and quick cooling scrub.

2 tsp mint juice

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp almond oil

1-2 drops peppermint oil

Method:

Add the mint juice, almond and peppermint oil to sugar, and mix well till everything is blended and comes to a smooth consistency. Apply it all over your body and feel your skin cooling down.
