Inner thigh chafing is the worst! I should know. All it takes to get to that point of irritable discomfort is sweating from daily activities, workouts, clothes like skirts or shorts that don’t provide enough of a barrier between the thighs, heat, excess weight, and wearing fabrics that don’t absorb moisture. Thigh chafing can cause a lot of tenderness, redness, itching, and sometimes, even swelling and pus. So, it is important to treat it as soon as possible. But don’t worry, it’ll definitely not lead you to your deathbed, even though you’ll be wishing you could chop off your legs just so your thighs don’t rub against each other.
However, your inner thighs aren’t the only body part affected by chafing. Your armpits, buttocks, and even the groin area can get affected. Since chafing of the inner thighs is very common, here are a few home remedies to help you take care of it.
1. Aloe vera

If your mother or grandmother ever told you that aloe vera is a magical remedy, they were right. Aloe vera promotes the healing of wounds and has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. So, if you have an aloe plant at home, like most Indian households do, use it to treat yourself. Get the gel of the aloe vera and apply it to your skin. And if you don’t have the plant, use a non-fragrant, chemical-free aloe vera gel. The cooling effect of the gel will also give you much-needed relief from the irritation caused by chafing.
2. Petroleum jelly

Grab that tub of Vaseline and get working, people. The thick jelly is great for chafing since it won’t fully get absorbed into the skin. It provides a slippery surface and will decrease the friction caused when your thighs rub together.

3. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is another good remedy to treat several wounds including chafing. It helps reduce inflammation and soothe the affected area. Unlike petroleum jelly, coconut oil will get absorbed into the skin faster, so it’s best to keep reapplying it. Coconut oil can stain your clothes, so let it absorb into the skin a bit before you put on your clothes.
4. Olive oil

Olive oil is a great way to treat chafing. It will moisturise your skin and soothe it too. So, if you are looking for a home remedy for chafing, look no further than your kitchen. Apply the olive oil on freshly cleaned and dried skin.
5. Cornstarch

It’s probably an unexpected remedy, but an effective one to treat chafing. Cornstarch absorbs extra moisture from the skin and helps reduce itching. Use cornstarch the way you use powder and dust it on the chafed area. Give it a moment to absorb before you wear your clothes.
6. Baking soda

Baking soda, a household name for sodium bicarbonate, is a natural antiseptic. It’s an easy and inexpensive home remedy for chafing. All you have to do is mix three tablespoons of baking soda in some water to make a thick, smooth paste. Rub the paste onto the irritated area to soothe the skin there.
7. Turmeric

The desi gharelu nuskha that everyone knows of will come to your rescue even now. Turmeric is full of anti-inflammatory properties that help in treating chafed skin. All you need to do is mix two teaspoons of haldi with water and make a thick paste. Apply it over the chafed area, allow it to dry for 30 minutes, and then rinse it off. It’s best to reapply the paste a few times a day, so make sure you do it on a day off.
