If there’s one thing 2024 taught us, it’s that your skin can never be too dewy. Between layering hydrating serums and viral ‘glass skin’ challenges, this was the year of all things luminous. Did we achieve that glow, or did we just look oily? Here are Team All About Eve’s worst skincare product purchases of 2024. So, if you want to save your hard-earned money, keep reading.
1. ‘My lip balm made me look like a clown’
Lip balms are my ride-or-die. So to protect my lips from the harsh and sneaky sunrays, I ordered Dot & Key Peptide Barrier Repair Spf 50 Pa+++ tinted lip balm and it didn’t do a thing. It was neither hydrating nor easy to apply. It was so liquidy that every time I applied it, it decided to take a trip outside my lip line making me look like a clown. And it disappeared faster than my will to reapply it.
2. Greasiness instead of glow
Who doesn’t want that glowing and dewy skin? But please, no greasiness. Pravika wanted that too, so enter the Aqualogica Glow+Dewy Sunscreen. Forget about the glow it was supposed to provide; it made her skin feel too greasy.
3. Vitamin C serum? Not for me
Vitamin C serums have become the holy grail of skincare. But for Anshita, The Derma Co 10% Vitamin C Serum was her ticket to acne city. Instead of bright and even skin, the serum gave her more acne and smelled horrible. It has officially been banned from her shelf.
4. The roll-on fiasco
Undereye creams and roll-ons have been all the rage lately, so Stuti jumped on that bandwagon with Pilgrim’s Under Eye Roll-On. But the poor guy did nothing for her. One month of regular use and her stubborn dark circles didn’t budge. Stuti now uses the metal tip of the roll-on to massage her undereye area to get something out of the money she spent.
5. Cleanser isn’t cleansing
Kavya wanted the bare minimum from her cleanser – to clean. But the COSRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser couldn’t even do that. This product made her feel like there was a layer of dirt on her skin choking it and this is not what we expect from a cleanser, right?
6. Two products, both horrible
Ravnoor tried Dr. Sheth’s face wash and sunscreen and she was disappointed! Dr. Sheth’s Neem and Salicylic acid face wash is “the worst thing” she has ever put on her skin. The sunscreen was a screaming NO just after the first application. Her skin broke out after using both products. For Ravnoor, these two were definitely the worst skincare products of 2024.
7. Dry skin with acne on the side
Sukhmani wanted to repair her skin barrier, so she bought the Ordinary Soothing & Barrier Support Serum. But repaired skin was nowhere to be found. Instead what she did find was dryness and acne all over her face. Dryness and acne? That’s a combo nobody asked for.
8. Lip balm caused pigmentation
Ananya’s lips were thriving until they weren’t. The RENEE Everyday Lip Balm started great, but weeks later, her lips looked darker than our souls on Monday mornings.
9. Another traumatic sunscreen experience
Vrinda had high hopes for Chosen Store’s Safescreen Silymarin Oil Control Sunscreen but it gave her nothing but regret. She hated it so much that she doesn’t even remember where she chucked it. Bin? Under the bed? Who knows!
