Holi is the festival of colours and staying indoors can be a little tough when everyone is out playing. But a lot of people have various skin concerns as the colours used can be harsh. From chemicals to dyes and much more, even dry colours are packed with synthetic stuff these days. But does that mean you skip all the fun? We say no because we have the perfect post-Holi skincare routine for you. So, go have your fun and follow this easy and simple routine for a week after the festivities to let your skin recover.

1. Use cold water to clean yourself

Cold water might be better for a few days, instead of warm water, as it will keep the skin cool and not irritate it. But don’t keep washing your face continuously to remove colours as it can scrub off all the moisture on the skin. This can lead to breakouts or dry and dull skin.

2. Use a mild and gentle milk-based cleanser

Your skin needs excess hydration after all the harsh colours and chemicals penetrate the skin barrier and make it lose its moisture. Skip any cleansers with active ingredients as they can irritate your skin. Go for a gentle milk-based cleanser. If you don’t have one, just wipe your face with cotton balls soaked in milk. Rinse it off with water and pat dry. But avoid this if you’re an oily skin type as it can trigger breakouts.

3. Use fragrance-free toners and moisturisers

Based on your skin type, stick to fragrance-free toners and moisturisers in your post-Holi skincare routine. This will eliminate any chance of irritating your skin and will allow it to breathe. You don’t need an intensive routine and layer a lot of products. Just stick to your basic CTM for a few days.

4. Stay away from skin acids and actives for a few days

Your Vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, AHAs and BHAs need to be given a break post the festivities. Avoid using them in your post-Holi skincare routine as they might cause irritation or inflammation on the skin. Following a simple CTM routine that is fragrance and actives-free is the best way to keep your skin healthy.

5. Don’t get any beauty treatments done for a couple of days

Your skin will already be super sensitive post-Holi because of all the synthetic ingredients in the colours and you don’t want to irritate it further. Stay away from getting any beauty treatments done for a couple of days and allow your skin to get back to normal.

6. Use cold aloe vera gel if your skin is feeling irritated

The chances of your skin getting red or irritated can be pretty high post the festivities. This is pretty common, so don’t get stressed. All you need to do is apply some cold aloe vera gel to the inflamed area and it will instantly soothe the irritation. You can do this twice after washing your face with a cleanser and then letting the aloe vera gel sit for 15 minutes before cleaning it with cold water.

7. Include an eye cream and hydrating lip balm in your nighttime routine

Your skin heals when you’re asleep and giving it the right kind of hydration will only benefit you further. Since the skin around your eyes and lips is extremely sensitive, use a hydrating eye cream and lip balm/mask for a week at least.
