2020 has been quite an adventurous year in many ways. While we may not have been actually going out on adventures and exploring the world, we did the same sitting at home. Thanks to OTT platforms, we stayed entertained and had lots of stuff to watch in the background as we scrolled through our phones pointlessly. But there were some shows and movies which compelled us to pay attention to our screens. And that, in part, had to do with the actors in these shows and movies. They were the kind of actors who made us put away our phones and kept us hooked with their talent. So, before we wrap up this year, here is a roundup of some of the actors we discovered in 2020.

1. Tripti Dimri

Tripti Dimri may not be a newcomer but she was simply a sight to behold in her Netflix movie Bulbbul. While Tripti has previously appeared in movies Laila Majnu and Poster Boys, she was recognised as an exceptional actor with Bulbbul. Ever since we first saw her as Bulbbul, we can’t wait for what Tripti Dimri will do next.

2. Pratik Gandhi

Pratik Gandhi aka Harshad Mehta made his debut on OTT platforms with the series Scam 1992. He has been primarily working in Gujarati cinema and theatre, and playing the main lead in Harshad Mehta’s biography is considered his masterstroke because fans went into a frenzy after seeing his performance. The show was very well received by critics and the audience, making Pratik Gandhi one of the stars of 2020.

3. Prajakta Koli

Famous YouTuber Prajakta Koli has been quite a heartthrob. She has been entertaining the audience with her YouTube channel called Mostly Sane for a while now. But, this year, she made her debut with Netflix’s hit show Mismatched. Starring opposite Rohit Saraf, the show gained a tremendous fan following. She has also signed a Dharma film post the success of the show and will be seen doing more promising roles ahead.

4. Alaya F

Alaya F, Pooja Bedi’s daughter, made her big debut in Bollywood this year with Jawaani Jaaneman. Sharing the screen with Saif Ali Khan, she received a lot of praise for her role. Alaya has been quite a sensation among Gen Z with her fashion sense and entertaining TikTok videos. Among all the other debuts by Bollywood kids, Alaya’s has been quite enviable and promising.

5. Hyun Bin

This year has been quite big for all K-drama fans. Even for those who don’t understand one word of Korean, K-dramas and their unique storylines were saviours from the drudgery of everyday life. It was during one of these binges that we discovered Hyun Bin. He’s not a new actor in the Korean film and drama industry, but with Netflix’s Crash Landing On You, Hyun Bin became a global sensation. And if you are someone who still hasn’t discovered his charm, you are missing out on a lot!

6. Sanjana Sanghi

The bubbly and extremely cute Sanjana Sanghi aka Kizie Basu left her fans in awe after her first major role in Dil Bechara. She has previously worked in Bollywood movies, but this was her first movie as the main lead with co-star Sushant Singh Rajput. The adaptation of The Fault In Our Stars was a hit for many reasons including the fact that this was Sushant Singh Rajput’s last movie. But Sanjana got her fair share of fame and appreciation because of her memorable work in the film.

7. Rohit Saraf

Even though Rohit Saraf has done a lot of work in Hindi films, he was widely appreciated for his Netflix debut Mismatched. And before that, the actor gave an amazing performance in Ludo, another hit on Netflix. The pairing of Saraf and Prajakta Koli in Mismatched was an instant hit and their popularity only grew in the days following the release. Rohit Saraf has now signed more projects, so we will definitely see more of his stellar performances in 2021 as well.

8. Prit Kamani

Prit Kamani is probably one of the cutest artists to have made their debut this year. We might also be crushing a little over his chocolate boy charm. Seen in the Netflix movie Maska, he was total eye candy on the screen. Even though the movie wasn’t really a hit, Prit Kamani is one of the newcomers that made a mark and stole our hearts with his performance this year.

9. Emma Corrin

Emma Corrin, another newcomer to the OTT platforms, played the role of beloved Princess Diana in season 4 of Netflix’s hit series The Crown. Her portrayal of the late princess turned heads as she totally transformed herself into her character. The charm, the spontaneity, and the sufferings of Diana were brought to life once again with the fourth season of the series. 10. Jitendra Kumar

Previously seen in web series like Kota Factory, Jitendra Kumar rose to fame this year. With his role in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Amazon web series Panchayat, the actor has seen tremendous growth in his fan following. His performance was amazing and gained a great response from the audience and the critics.
