Everyone has to work hard for their bread and butter. But that doesn’t mean you can’t add a little more flavour on your plate every now and then. Upgrade your morning toast and chai with these gourmet spreads by TBH.
1. Figs and Honey
Fold in a little bit of cinnamon into goat cheese. Spread it on your toast and top with fresh figs. Drizzle honey over it and enjoy. For an extra mouthful of goodness, spread another layer of this delicious figs and honey conserve on your toast.

2. Fried Eggs and Baby Spinach
Sautee some baby spinach in a pan with butter, salt and garlic powder. Spread butter on your toast and as soon as the spinach wilts, transfer it on the toast. Sprinkle some finely chopped nuts and place a half fried egg on top.
Pair it with: Berries to add freshness
3. Salad in a Croissant
Have your salad in a croissant with this recipe. Take fresh salad leaves, halved cherry tomatoes, onion slices and chopped cucumber. Mix them with rock salt, lemon juice and pepper. Allow it to stand for 5 minutes for the spices to blend in the flavour. Spread the mixture on a buttered toast and drizzle orange marmalade lightly on top as a dressing. This will give you a sweet and tangy flavour.
Pair it with: Fruit salad
4. Banana French Toast
Dissolve one tablespoon butter, a pinch of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons brown sugar and half cup orange juice in a pan. Simmer till the sugar dissolves and the mixture starts thickening. Now set it aside till it cools. Dip bread slices in it and shallow fry them in a pan. Spread this scrumptious banana rum jam on the toast and top with banana slices.
Pair it with: Maple syrup
5. Avocado and Pumpkin Seeds
Mash an avocado and add chilli powder, fine chopped onions, salt, coarse ground pepper and lemon. Spread the mixture on toast. Shred some leftover chicken and remove bones. Flash heat it in a pan and add a salt and lemon dressing. Place it on the toast and top with either carrot or cucumber slices. Generously spread pumpkin seeds on top and a healthy open sandwich is ready.
Pair it with: Lemonade or fresh citrus juice
6. Mushroom and Chicken
Sautee fine chopped onions, mushrooms and garlic with salt. Spread the mixture on a toast and add cooked chicken pieces. Garnish with spring onions and coarse ground pepper.
Pair it with: A citrus fruit to cut through the fat
