The Met Gala 2025, fashion’s most exclusive event, is here. Once again, it’s serving looks, sass, and drama while keeping us curious about what happens behind those museum doors. This year, adding some serious desi charm, we have Bollywood gems including Shah Rukh Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Kiara Advani representing India. Until now, all we knew was that the event would take place on May 5, 2025, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. And that’s when sadda munda Diljit decided to tease us with some exclusive bits from the Met Gala 2025. Here’s what he shared.

In his latest Instagram post, Diljit Dosanjh unboxed his Meta Gala invite in his signature Punjabi swag. Revealing a sneak peek from preparations, he shared photos of goodie hampers, champagne and the official invitation for the event. The invite revealed that Basketball legend LeBron James is the honorary chair for the Met Gala 2025. Holding his invite like a golden ticket, Diljit read aloud all the details, including the dress code – Tailored For You. But do you know what exactly happens inside the Met Gala? While we sit in our pyjamas to judge all the looks, here’s what happens when the guests enter the museum.
1. Shh… It’s a secret

Yep, the event follows a “no social media” policy throughout its course. The guests must turn off their phones. Any recording of the event through personal devices is strictly prohibited, and guests must abide by this rule. For this reason, even reporters are not allowed inside the Met Gala. But rules are meant to be broken, right? And so, every year, we get a fair share of celebs’ bathroom selfies where they sneakily share BTS moments of the event.
2. The iconic carpet

The event starts with all the A-list celebrities walking the Met Gala red carpet, flaunting their looks. The theme for the Met Gala 2025 is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” focusing on Black dandyism, a fashion revolution to celebrate individualism, refinement and defiance.
3. The cocktail hour

Once the celebs finish posing in their dramatic outfits, they head inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art to gather for a fancy cocktail sesh. Think clinking of the champagne glasses, warm hugs and whispered compliments (and gossip). The cocktail hour sets up the vibe for the evening.
4. The exhibition tour

Holding their fancy cocktail glasses, the celebrities tour the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition, showcasing the work of talented designers. This year, the exhibition will explore Black dandies’ history and fashion culture.
5. A lavish dinner

After a wholesome cocktail hour, the celebs gather for a formal dinner where they sit according to their assigned places. The seating is not at all random. In fact, the organisers meticulously work on the seating plan months before the event. Eaddy Kiernan, Vogue‘s Met Gala 2021 organiser, revealed an interesting fact about the seating arrangement. She said, “We really try to think very carefully about who’s sitting next to each other. Our ideal pairing would maybe be two people who we think will just get on like a house on fire, but who may not even realise that they have a lot in common. So, with each person, we really do take time to think.” Now that’s thoughtful, right?
6. Performances, speeches and much more

This part of the Met Gala is when the fashion world’s version of the Oscars meets a private concert. According to Vogue, every year, a couple of the most high-profile celebs get to perform for the audience. For the Met Gala 2024, Ariana Grande and her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo were the surprise performers for the event. And they left the audience in complete awe with their craft. After the performances are done, guests change into comfortable outfits for the after-party saga.
