Few South Asian artists have the kind of global achievements that Diljit Dosanjh has earned. Diljit has managed to connect with an audience that does not even understand his language. He has created an aura, a vibe that transcends borders. From music to fashion, Diljit Dosanjh has created a unique space for himself, and now, our beeba munda is debuting at the Met Gala. But why was Diljit Dosanjh invited to the Met Gala 2025 before anyone else?
The Coachella performance

In 2023, Diljit became the first Indian artist to ever perform at Coachella, one of the world’s most iconic music festivals. Dressed in his signature Punjabi swag, Diljit owned the stage, waving the flag for an entire culture and region with the now-iconic line, “Punjabi aa gaye oye!”
A tour so big
Diljit’s Dil-Luminati World Tour was more than just music; it was a movement. While the tour stirred up some controversy in India, globally, it went on to become the biggest North American tour ever by a Punjabi music artist. With 215,000 attendees from 13 cities, the tour grossed more than USD 27 million.
Sold-out stadiums

Creating the biggest tour isn’t the only achievement Diljit has had. He also made history by selling out Vancouver’s BC Place, the city’s largest venue with a capacity of over 54,000 people. Selling out such a massive stadium in a foreign country isn’t a small feat. It shows how far Diljit Dosanjh has come as a global star.
The Tonight Show
When Diljit announced that he’ll be performing on The Tonight Show, we naturally couldn’t wait, and why not? It was the first time an Indian singer performed at the show. And that’s not it. Jimmy Fallon rightfully introduced Diljit as “the biggest Punjabi artist on the planet”.
Internet-breaking collaborations

Performing globally and collaborating with global artists are two different things, and Diljit Dosanjh has done both, multiple times. Diljit’s first international collab came with British singer Annie Marie on his song Peaches. And then he was unstoppable. He collaborated with the Australian singer Sia for a song called Hass Hass and made her sing a verse in Punjabi. Now that’s what we call aura. Later, Diljit collaborated with American rapper-singer Saweetie on his song Khutti. And we all remember the moment when Diljit performed his song Lover on stage with Ed Sheeran.

Ruling the Billboard charts
Diljit Dosanjh has been a sensation in Punjabi music for years now, but his 11th album, G.O.A.T., made it to the Billboard charts. The album not only entered Billboard’s Social 50 chart, but also ended up sitting at the top spot in Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart.
The truth is that Diljit Dosanjh was invited to the Met Gala 2025 not because he is an actor or musician but because he’s a movement.
