If you’ve ever wanted to experiment with your hair colour but have backed out because mummy nahi maanengi, you’re in luck today! Our parents usually stop us from colouring our hair because of the chemicals present in the products. There’s an obvious threat of those chemicals damaging your hair in the long run. If you are suffering from such hair damage right now, check out these DIY hair masks for dull and damaged hair. But this damage doesn’t have to happen while colouring your hair. What if you could get those same results at home with natural ingredients? Here are five ways to lighten hair naturally at home.
1. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is the wonder ingredient in most concoctions! Moreover, with its anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it is also an amazing addition to our regular diets. To lighten hair naturally, spray a solution of ACV and water on them, and let the solution sit for a few minutes before washing it off. Remember, it’s a natural way which means it will probably not show instant results. For best results, repeat it at least twice a week for a month.

2. Lemons

Lemon is a fantastic ingredient because its citrus properties are healthy for us and pretty good for DIY projects! Remember the invisible ink projects from school? The thing to remember about lemon though is that it can be quite harsh for your hair if used directly. Thus, for better conditioning, mix lemon juice with a conditioner or water and apply it on your hair. Leave it on for two hours before wash. Repeat over the next few weeks for visible results.
3. Honey, vinegar, and coconut oil

Mix the three ingredients to make a smooth paste and apply it on your hair. This mixture needs to stay on for at least four to five hours, so the best time to leave it on would be overnight. You can simply wrap your hair in a towel and go to sleep. Wash it off in the morning with shampoo and finish the treatment with a conditioner. Repeat once a week until you get visible results.
4. Chamomile tea

Who knew that this calming tea could give you hair highlights? All you have to do is brew a cup of chamomile tea and spray it on your hair. Relax under the sun for about half an hour before you wash off the tea. Again, since it’s a natural process, results will be slow. Repeat this process twice a week until you get your desired results.

5. Baking soda

This is probably the quickest way to lighten hair naturally. All you need to do is mix water with baking soda to make a thick and smooth paste. Apply this paste on your hair and wait for about 30 minutes before you wash it off with a mild shampoo. You could see some results after the first wash itself, but it also depends on your hair texture. Repeat it once a week until you get satisfactory results.
