We all have faced the embarrassment of sweat patches showing up at the wrong time. But first things first, it is NORMAL. As normal as Halle Berry showing her sweat patches on national television on The Ellen Degeneres Show. (Don’t believe us, watch it for yourself). But it can feel unpleasant, especially when the humidity makes the sweating worse. So, we’ve picked five home remedies for sweaty underarms to banish those patchy disasters forever.
1. Apple Cider Vinegar
This is a one-stop wonder for so many beauty woes, we have lost count. And it doesn’t disappoint here either. The vinegar, which is acidic in nature, helps neutralise the pH of the area, thus making it difficult for bacteria to thrive. Say hello to sweat-free and odour-free underarms.
What you need
- A small bowl of apple cider vinegar
- Cotton balls
What to do
Dip the cotton ball in the apple cider vinegar and apply it directly on your armpits. You should ideally do this overnight. Or apply it every morning after a bath.
2. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice
We know that baking soda is great for hair cleansing. It is also a great antiperspirant. Baking soda and lemon juice work hand-in-hand to not just fight sweat but also eliminate odour causing bacteria. It works by lowering the pH and reducing perspiration. This will keep your underarms dry and sweat-free
What you need
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
What to do
Mix equal amounts of baking soda and lemon juice to make a paste. Apply it directly on your armpits and let it dry for 3-4 minutes. Take a shower once dry. You should do this once daily to see great results.
3. Potato
Yes, potatoes are great when they’re fried but they have other awesome uses too. Potatoes are slightly acidic, and thus work similar to other remedies in this list. They lower the pH of the skin in your armpits, thus making it difficult for bacteria to survive.
What you need
- 1 potato
What to do
Cut the potato into thin slices and rub the slices directly to your underarms. You can do this 2-3 times in a day.
4. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is great for so many beauty hacks. With lauric acid as an ingredient, coconut oil works really well to counter sweat, and its anti-microbial fatty acids keep bacteria at bay.
What you need
- Coconut oil (as required)
What to do
Take some coconut oil on your fingers and apply directly to your underarms. Make sure it is absorbed properly. Do this once or twice a day, after taking a shower preferably.
You can also add a bit of baking soda to it and make a natural deodorant.
5. Tea Tree Oil
Here is another natural wonder to banish your sweating woes. Tea tree oil has antimicrobial properties, and the natural astringent help minimise the pores of your underarms.
What you need
- A few drops of tea tree oil
- Water
- Cotton pads
What to do
Add a few drops (2-3) to two tablespoons of water and apply on your underarms with a cotton pad. It is best to do this twice a day for effective results. You can also use it as a spray by adding a few drops to water in a spray bottle.
