Amitabh Bachchan has given us some classic movies like Don, Kabhie Kabhie, K3G, Paa, and more. And with each movie, he has blessed us all with some iconic dialogues that are memorable even today. No matter how old his movies are, a lot of Amitabh Bachchan’s dialogues will remain evergreen. On the stalwart’s 81st birthday, here’s remembering some of Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic dialogues.

Main aur meri tanhayi, aksar yeh baatein karte hai; tum hoti toh kaisa hota

This dialogue from the movie Silsila is pure poetry and oozes the pain that Amitabh Bachchan’s character Amit feels as he reminisces about his lost love.

“Don ka intezaar toh gyarah mulkon ki police kar rahi hai. Lekin Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahin, naamumkin hai

If you had to show confidence in a dialogue, it would undoubtedly be this one from the 1978 movie Don. As Don is surrounded by the police force with no weapon to aid him, he says this dialogue to Kamini expressing his confidence in evading the cops no matter what.

Rishte me toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain, naam hai Shahenshah

There’s no introduction as powerful as this one from the movie Shahenshah. As Amitabh Bachchan’s Vijay introduces himself to a group of criminals, you know there will be no saving the bad guys.

“I can talk English, I can walk English, I can laugh English, I can run English, because English is such a funny language”

Drama is not the only genre Senior Bachchan excels in. Comedy is also child’s play to him, and this dialogue from Namak Halal is a testament to that.

Mujhe jo sahi lagta hai main karta hoon, fir chahe wo bhagwan ke khilaaf ho, kanoon ke khilaf ho ya poore system ke khilaaf

This dialogue from Sarkar shows how the character is so true to his own principles and won’t hesitate to do what needs to be done for what he feels is right.

Paisa toh har koi kamaa leta hai … lekin izzat kamaana sabke bas ki baat nahi

This dialogue from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham holds true to life even today. Yashvardhan Raichand was a patriarchal figure who quite frankly was also a classist man, but this dialogue showcases a humility that was rare for the character.

Aaj khush toh bahut hoge tum. Dekho! Jo aaj tak tumhari mandir ki seedhiyan nahi chadha hai. Jisne aaj tak tumhare saamne sar nahi jhukaaya hai, jisne aaj tak kabhi tumhare saamne haath nahi jode, woh aaj tumhare saamne haath failaaye khada hai…Bahut khush hoge tum…

This iconic dialogue from Deewar is so powerful, more so because of the way Big B acted it out. Vijay says this as he walks into a temple for the first time praying for his mother’s health. The dialogue brings out the desperation and anger that Vijay feels as well as his helplessness quite brilliantly.

Kabhi kabhie mere dil mein khayaal aata hai, ki zindagi teri zulfon ki narm chhaon mein guzarne paati to shadab ho bhi sakti thi

This romantic and poetic dialogue from the classic movie Kabhi Kabhie captures the feelings of Amit Malhotra with pure beauty and grace.

Parampara, Pratishtha, Anushasan. Yeh is Gurukul ke teen stambh hai. Yeh woh aadarsh hain jinse hum aapka aane waala kal banaate hain

Narayan Shankar cared about one thing, and one thing only – his principles. And no one was allowed to come between his rules and principles, not even his daughter. Anybody who is a fan of Bollywood knows this iconic dialogue delivered by Amitabh Bachchan in his stoic, unflinching, and stern tone.

Keh diya na, bas keh diya

Yashvardhan Raichand’s motto throughout Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was to make his family bend to his rules. And this dialogue is quite representative of the patriarchy that is as ingrained in everyone’s mind as your papa’s daant.
