Karan Johar is back with his signature brand of big, glossy romance. Produced by Dharma Productions, Chand Mera Dil stars Ananya Panday and Lakshya as the lead couple. The film promises a mix of yearning, confusion, and relatable relationship dilemmas wrapped in a dreamy, cinematic world. Here’s our review of Chand Mera Dil.

A relationship caught between love and reality

Chand Mera Dil follows Aarav (Lakshya) and Chandni (Ananya Panday), two engineering students who fall for each other. But their intense, all-consuming relationship feels almost too big for them to handle. They thought they would love each other deeply while building their careers and figure life out one step at a time. But adulthood arrives far earlier than expected when Chandni gets pregnant, forcing the two to confront responsibilities they are nowhere near prepared for.

Their relationship treads into darker, more complicated territory. As ambition, emotional immaturity, and the pressure of building a future begin to clash, Aarav and Chandni are left questioning whether love alone is enough to survive growing up together.

Chand Mera Dil movie review: A love story that could be more in-depth

The movie focuses on the uncomfortable realities of young love by taking up central themes, including unplanned pregnancy, domestic violence, emotional frustration, and the exhaustion that comes with early parenthood. It also sparks a conversation about whether you should prioritise self-respect over love, especially after your partner treats you badly. More so, if you choose either of the two, what does it say about you? Chand Mera Dil chooses a softer, more intimate approach rather than an overly dramatic plot. Both Lakshya and Ananya honestly portray the frustration, angst, and vulnerability that keep the story real and relatable. While their on-screen chemistry has a lot of potential, the film’s weak writing doesn’t let it brew properly.

What truly helps Chand Mera Dil is its visual storytelling. The aesthetic cinematic element becomes a character in itself. From the calming coffee-making sequence to the moment when Chandni first visits Aarav’s campus hostel, there’s a soothing, ASMR-style quality to the way the scenes unfold, making the film feel audio-visually immersive for the viewers. At the same time, the stylisation does overpower the emotional intensity and the core plot.

Paresh Pahuja saves the day

Just when you’re used to Aarav and Chandni’s messy love story, Chand Mera Dil introduces you to Paresh Pahuja’s Kevin, who brings an unexpected twist. He plays Chandni’s colleague in the film, who has a crush on her. Paresh’s calm, emotionally mature performance makes him one of the best supporting characters in the film. His role will definitely give you some breathing room amid the emotional turbulence of Aarav and Chandni’s relationship. Safe to say, Paresh Pahuja brings much-needed depth to an otherwise underwhelming script.

Chand Mera Dil is now running in theatres.

Can you watch Chand Mera Dil with your family?: The movie portrays intimacy that might be uncomfortable to watch with family.
