Mirzapur: The Movie is releasing this week, and we can’t wait! Ali Fazal has asked fans to rewatch Season 1 till Episode 6, as the movie picks up from the story set in motion there. If Season 1 feels like a distant memory of guns, gangsters, and endless power plays, you’re not alone. The film hits theatres on September 4, 2026, so here’s your no-nonsense Mirzapur Season 1 recap of Episodes 1–6 for the movie. Revisit all the key characters, rivalries, and plot points you need to remember before you watch the movie.

Episode 1: Jhandu

Welcome to Mirzapur, a city where the line between politicians, police, gangsters, and business is basically nonexistent. The city is effectively controlled by Akhandanand Tripathi, better known as Kaleen Bhaiya, a wealthy carpet businessman whose real empire is built on guns and drugs. His son, Munna Tripathi, considers himself the natural heir to all of it. The only problem is that Munna has inherited his father’s power without inheriting his father’s patience and intelligence.

The first episode starts with Munna attending a wedding procession, where he fires his gun in the air and accidentally kills the groom. This one incident sets the story in motion. The groom’s family turns to Ramakant Pandit, an idealistic lawyer who actually believes in the law. Ramakant’s sons, Guddu and Bablu, are studying at the same college as Munna, while their sister Dimpy is friends with Sweety Gupta.

Guddu is ambitious, physically aggressive, and obsessed with becoming a bodybuilding champion. He is also in love with Sweety. Bablu is quieter and considerably more level-headed. Together, however, they become an unexpected problem for Munna. When Munna shows up at their house to intimidate their father into dropping the case, Guddu and Bablu fight back. This catches Kaleen Bhaiya’s attention, and he sees an opportunity.

Episode 2: Gooda

Kaleen Bhaiya does something Munna absolutely does not expect. He recruits Guddu and Bablu, and this enrages Munna. The brothers are offered a place inside his operation, working in the illegal arms business. For Guddu, the money and status are tempting. Bablu is more hesitant, but the two eventually step into Kaleen Bhaiya’s world. Their father, Ramakant, naturally, is horrified. However, he is still determined to pursue justice for the dead groom, but his sons are now increasingly invested in keeping the Tripathis happy. They try to convince Ramakant to drop the case, but he refuses. So, eventually, the brothers pressure the groom’s family to withdraw the case.

Meanwhile, Munna is furious. He has just been beaten up by two ordinary college boys, and now his father has decided those same boys are worth keeping around. To make matters worse, a serious rival emerges: Rati Shankar Shukla, a powerful gangster from Jaunpur with a long and bitter history with Kaleen Bhaiya. Shukla sends men to kill Munna, but he survives the attack and kills those men instead.

Episode 3: Wafadar

This episode explains why Kaleen Bhaiya and Rati Shankar hate each other so much. Their rivalry goes back years, when Rati Shankar was closely associated with the Tripathi family. He was loyal to the family and expected to be rewarded in return. However, when the time came to decide who would inherit Mirzapur, Satyanand, Kaleen Bhaiya’s father, chose his own son. This led to a fallout, and Rati attacked Satyanand, paralysing him waist-down. Eventually, however, Satyanand forgave him and asked him to rule Jaunpur and never return to Mirzapur. But now Rati is back, and he wants Mirzapur.

Meanwhile, Guddu and Bablu are proving to be useful. Kaleen Bhaiya asks them to expand his gun business. But the more responsibility he gives them, the more Munna feels that his position is being stolen from him. On the other hand, Kaleen Bhaiya goes to Azamgarh to meet Lala, a maker and supplier of opium, to ask him for more quantity than usual. Kaleen Bhaiya needs money to fund the upcoming election, or he might lose his power. On the way back to Mirzapur, he is attacked by Rati’s goons, but he survives.

Episode 4: Virginity

Since Guddu and Bablu have been doing a great job, Kaleen Bhaiya decides to test them. They are asked to murder someone, and they do it. While Guddu feels all the more powerful after the crime, Bablu is uncomfortable and horrified.

Guddu also throws himself into bodybuilding and wants to win the Mr Purvanchal competition. His relationship with Sweety continues to develop, while Munna’s frustration grows as Munna also likes Sweety, but she shows no interest in him. The Tripathi household has its own secrets. Beena Tripathi, Kaleen Bhaiya’s wife, is deeply unhappy in her marriage and begins an affair with Raja, a servant in the household.

By now, Guddu and Bablu are also being trusted with increasingly dangerous work. The boys who entered Kaleen Bhaiya’s empire for money are starting to understand that there is no clean way out. Guddu and Sweety are also getting closer, which is making Munna more desperate. To execute his revenge, Munna introduces Guddu to steroids, and he agrees as he wants to win the Mr Purvanchal competition.

Episode 5: Bhaukaal

Guddu and Bablu’s work in Kaleen Bhaiya’s arms operation is becoming increasingly successful, and Guddu in particular is enjoying the authority that comes with it. Meanwhile, Kaleen Bhaiya is trying to keep the larger criminal ecosystem under control. There are gangsters, politicians, police officers, and businessmen connected to the same network, and everyone wants a piece of the money. Episode 5 mainly establishes how Guddu and Bablu are rising in the world of crime. Their strategy to increase crime in the city was a huge success. At the end of the episode, SSP Maurya is transferred to Mirzapur to restore law and order in the city.

Episode 6: Barfi

Mirzapur recap of Season 1, Episode 6 is really important for the movie. By Episode 6, Guddu and Bablu have earned Kaleen Bhaiya’s trust enough to give them a much bigger opportunity. Their next assignment involves opium, referred to as “barfi”. The brothers use their newfound money to improve their family’s circumstances. But while they are increasingly comfortable with where the money comes from, their father remains deeply uncomfortable with the men his sons are becoming. The family has effectively split into two worlds as Guddu and Bablu are thrown out of their house.

Meanwhile, the power game gets bigger. A major gathering brings together politician JP Yadav, Rati Shankar, and Kaleen Bhaiya. Kaleen Bhaiya and Rati Shankar agree to a temporary truce, with political interests helping push the two sides towards peace. On the other hand, SSP Maurya gives a free hand to his officers to clean the city, starting with Guddu and Bablu.
