Do You Wanna Partner follows two best friends, Sakshi Chowdhury (Tamannaah Bhatia) aka Shakes and Anahita Makujina (Diana Penty) aka Mak. They are both ambitious young ladies stuck in the corporate world that doesn’t let them climb the ladder. After two life-changing incidents in Shakes and Mak’s lives, they decide to start their own business of making beer. But this decision brings with it a bag full of bumps to derail the duo. From getting a trademark to finding a brewery, at each step, Shakes and Mak are pulled down by patriarchy. Because vendors can’t believe two women can start a beer business. Finally, after finding a master brewer, Bobby (Nakuul Mehta), a fake brand ambassador, David Jones (Jaaved Jaaferi), and a cruel investor, Laila Singh (Shweta Tiwari), Shakes and Mak are finally on their way to becoming successful.

What we didn’t love about Do You Wanna Partner

The story is set in Delhi NCR, and that’s where the trouble begins. The makers should have researched a bit about NCR and its people. But if we move past that, the story is interesting and light even though it gets a little too flashy at times. Some of the bumps Shakes and Mak encounter are fully avoidable and also a little unbelievable. The story tackles the themes of patriarchy and the everyday struggles of women, but they are never taken seriously at all. For a show with a refreshing theme, we expected more from the story and character development.

What we loved about Do You Wanna Partner

Starting from the obvious, the show brings two women together in business. Their life goes beyond men and relationships. Even though Shakes has a boyfriend, Kabir (Rannvijay Singha), he never takes over the narrative. The series offers fun moments that make you laugh and smirk. The cast of the series is talented and has done a good job with the limited opportunity offered to them by their characters. Diana Penty and Tamannaah Bhatia are convincing as two ambitious friends fighting obstacles that are specially designed for women trying to make it in business. Their chemistry as best friends is relatable and one of the best things about the show. Adding to that, Jaaved Jaaferi is a treat to watch as both of his characters, David and Dylan. Shweta Tiwari also brings the cunning, vile energy to her gangster-ish role of Laila Singh. Similarly, Sufi Motiwala as Firoo is fun to watch with all his quirks and sarcasm. You might also feel a little seen as a woman struggling with patriarchy every day.

Overall, Do You Wanna Partner could have done so much more with the theme it has. However, it lacks pace and sincerity. If you love beer or want to watch a show with women at the centre, you can choose to stream Do You Wanna Partner. Otherwise, skip it.

Can you watch Do You Wanna Partner with your family? There is intermittent use of abusive language. If that’s not a problem, go ahead.
