Why is misogyny still sold as entertainment? How far can a “comedy” show go before it crosses the line into outright disrespect? On a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, Urfi Javed was allegedly subjected to vile slut-shaming disguised as jokes. What followed was not only a painful display of misogyny but also a deafening silence from those who should have known better. And Urfi, never one to back down, walked out of the show, sending a powerful message that no one should tolerate being degraded for the sake of a laugh.
This ain’t comedy

On a recent episode of Samay Raina’s YouTube show India’s Got Latent, things went south, not for the first time though. Urfi, invited as a guest, faced a barrage of insults disguised as jokes from one of the contestants. According to a report by Tellychakkar, this individual not only called her a “b***h” but had the audacity to ask her about her body count. To make things worse, he compared her to adult film star Mia Khalifa, expressing disapproval over her imagined lifestyle choices.
And the worst part? Nobody stopped him. Not even the host, Samay Raina. But Urfi didn’t just sit there and take it. She did exactly what she had to – she walked out.
Misogyny isn’t a punchline
Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room or rather, the silent host. Raina is known for his sharp wit and dark humour, but silence in moments like this isn’t just disappointing, it’s enabling. When your platform becomes a stage for someone else’s misogyny, that’s no longer comedy; it’s complicity. And this is not the first time his show has become a platform for blatant disrespect. Previously, Raina was criticised for not stopping a contestant from making tasteless jokes about Deepika Padukone’s struggles with depression.
Urfi later addressed the incident on her Instagram, saying, “Nowadays people think it’s cool to abuse someone or slut-shame them for some views… No, it’s not. It’s not cool…I should’ve said something to these men but I didn’t cause the place I was at, everyone thought this was cool.” And honestly, she’s spot on. The sheer audacity to reduce a woman’s worth to her sexual history (or what someone thinks it might be) is not just archaic – it’s disgusting.

This incident also sheds light on a much bigger problem. Why do shows like this allow contestants to blur the line between edgy comedy and blatant disrespect? And, most importantly, why are audiences still clapping for it?
Let’s be clear: Urfi isn’t just a lightning rod for attention because of her daring fashion choices. She’s a woman with agency who refuses to be anyone’s punching bag. Her exit wasn’t just a mic drop – it was a loud and necessary wake-up call to everyone watching. And maybe, it’s time platforms like India’s Got Latent re-evaluate what kind of “talent” they’re really showcasing.
