Let’s be honest. 2024 was not my favourite year, bachche. There were no big highs to really celebrate. Even the lows were underwhelming when they should have taken some people down forever. But koi na. A new year is coming soon, and hopefully, 2025 will bring a lot more to talk about and celebrate. For now, let’s look back at the best moments of 2024 in India so that we can bid this manhoos year goodbye.

Rihanna ki Radaki

One of the best moments of 2024 for me was when Rihanna took a gazillionaire’s money to perform at a wedding and didn’t even bother to learn the bride’s name. The pleb in me was overjoyed, bachche. And this moment had a big lesson too. If Rihanna can make Radaki out of Radhika even after being paid crores, tum kyun free mein uss ladke ka naam jap rahi ho?

The Ambani wedding actually ended

This wedding was the longest wedding of my life. I wasn’t part of the shaadi but even from the comfort of my bed, the reels and looks were getting exhausting. And so many new ceremonies (aka excuses to show off andha paisa). I lost count of all the bridal looks only. But chalo, achcha sa trousseau ban gaya dulhan ka.

Pride at the Paralympics, beeba mundas at the Olympics

India did so well at the Paralympics this year, bachche. One of the best moments of 2024 for the whole country, I say. Avani Lekhara toh won my dil, vil, everything with her shooting style. And the mundas? They really showed the world that India was there to win big. Speaking of mundas, one of the most beeba ones for me is Neeraj Chopra. He won silver this time in the Olympics, but he was so happy for his bestie Arshad Nadeem when he won gold. Beautiful.

Diljit, Diljit everywhere

How can we speak of beeba mundas and not mention the phenomenon that is Diljit Dosanjh? First, he created toofan after toofan abroad. Then he came to India and the country could speak of nothing else. Every show got sold out so quickly that your dear Aunty didn’t even get a chance to approach anyone for a jugaad.

Laapata Ladies and AWIAL (the movie, not the sabzi)

I love the sabzi but this AWIAL is so much better. I didn’t hoot or cheer at any point during the movie. I didn’t cry, I didn’t laugh. But I left the theatre with a smile and a light feeling. I don’t know how else to describe it, bachche. All I know is you should watch it in a theatre without distraction. Laapata Ladies, on the other hand, made me laugh and hoot and cry, everything. What a journey. And it goes without saying that your dear Aunty Eve is super happy that both of these movies, getting so much fame and recognition, across the world, are made by women.

Shalini Passi came into our lives

Chalo, serious talk ho gayi for today. Back to normal programming now. Shalini Passi was the best moment of 2024 for me. Her kapde, her skin (we all know the secret to that glow now), her house, and oh ho ho, her attitude. Kitni aaraam se, without saying anything offensive, she just makes sure everyone in the room knows that she’s better than all of them. Whatta playa!

What were your best moments of 2024, bachche? Me and my thoughts? Hehehe.
