Directed by Sudhanshu Saria, Ulajh is the latest addition to the spy thriller genre. Starring Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, Rajesh Tailang, and Roshan Mathew, the movie revolves around proving one’s loyalty to the country. Like most spy thrillers before Ulajh, you can expect seat-gripping moments, palpable tension, and unexpected twists.
But is the movie the best in the category? Maybe no. Is it the worst? Definitely no. So, why should you watch it? Check out this review of Ulajh to find out. P.S. Ulajh proves why we need to stop hating Janhvi Kapoor.
A tangled story with some remarkable acting
Suhana Bhatia (Janhvi Kapoor) is a third-generation IFS officer and the youngest Deputy High Commissioner posted in London. Her father, Dhanraj Bhatia (Adil Hussain), is the permanent representative to the United Nations, and thus, she feels the weight of the responsibility more than ever.
Upon moving to London, Suhana initially seems naive and unaware of people’s motives towards her. But she quickly befriends her driver, Salim (Rajesh Tailang), who appears to empathise with the young girl. A few men working under her, including Sebin Joseph (Roshan Matthew) and Jacob Tamang (Meiyang Chang), are discontent as she is a woman in a position of power, and blame her for using her family connections to secure it.
At a work event, Suhana crosses paths with an overtly smart Nakul (Gulshan Devaiah) who cleverly tries to win her over with his charm and vulnerability. Soon, the two become friends, and later, more than friends, showcasing an interesting onscreen chemistry. But Suhana is in for a rude awakening as betrayal surrounds her, and she doesn’t know whom to trust.
As the movie progresses, you can feel the tension build up and the pace fasten. The chemistry between Sebin and Suhana improves in the second half as the two team up to find the mole, who has been acting from behind the curtains. Will the two find out who has been betraying them and the nation, or will they succeed in fooling everyone and making them believe that they have been loyal to the country?

Ulajh is proof that we need to stop hating Janhvi Kapoor
Despite being a nepo kid with superstar parents, Janhvi is one of the better actors. Right from the beginning of her career, the young actress has tried to diversify her acting and pick roles that don’t stereotype her. Sure, you might think she is underwhelming or overwhelming in certain scenes, but you’ll also feel what she’s feeling throughout.
She justifies being the main lead of the story, especially in the second half, as she takes charge of her situation and doesn’t sit around like a meek lamb, ready to be used.
Along with her, the cast that includes, Gulshan Devaiah, Roshan Mathew, Meiyang Chang, Adil Hussain, Rajesh Tailang, Rajendra Gupta, Rushad Rana, and Jitendra Joshi, give solid performances that are praiseworthy.
Can you watch it with your family?: The movie is A-rated and has scenes of intimacy, violence, and foul language. If you have cool parents, book your family tickets right away. If not, you can go solo.
