Ahead of Valentine’s Day, there’s a new rom-com in town, but one with a twist. A sci-fi romantic comedy starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is written and directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah. This love story is between a human and a robot. In this new age technology-driven world, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya chose a great subject, but does it deliver? Well, read this review to find out.
A completely uljha hua film
Shahid Kapoor isn’t the only one caught in a complicated pickle. The writers were going through something equally complex, and that is reflected in the film. Aryan Agnihotri (Shahid Kapoor) is a robotics engineer. When he visits his aunt, Urmila (Dimple Kapadia), in the US, he meets her assistant, Sifra (Kriti Sanon). Ankhon se ankhe mili, and the rest, as you know, is history. After a long drive on a bike and a song and dance routine on the beach, Aryan falls head over heels for Sifra. His love story hits the brakes when his aunt tells him Sifra is a robot, but she hadn’t disclosed this news as part of an experiment.

After a bit of a battle with his emotions, Aryan decides that he doesn’t care whether Sifra is a human or a robot, and love is love. Once he gets her shipped to India, he takes Sifra home to his family as his to-be bride. With her soft-spoken personality and knowledge of everything under the sun, Aryan’s family falls in love with Sifra and is ready with the dhol and baaraat.
The thing with Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is that the movie can’t decide what it wants to be. Does it want to be a human-robot love story, does it want to show how dangerous technology can be, or does it want to showcase the huge Indian family drama? The makers should have chosen one theme and stuck to it rather than going all over the place with this movie.
The script leaves much to be desired
Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya is funny in bits and pieces. There are isolated moments in which the comedy works in the movie. Unfortunately, as a whole, it misses the mark by a long shot. The script is mediocre at best, with no clear direction of central plot. The writers seemed to want to explore everything at once, which didn’t work in favour of the movie.

The performances of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon are fine, but nothing fantastic. Other actors like Dimple Kapadia and Dharmendra also, do a fine job, but not one performance hits you. Despite so many things happening in the movie, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya fails to hit any emotional spots. It doesn’t convince you of Aryan’s love for Sifra, neither does it stress you out wondering how the family will react to the truth or how Aryan and Sifra’s love story will reach its pinnacle. Even the climax, which was meant to be an emotional, tear-jerking affair, misses its mark.
