If you thought the impact of COVID on life and the economy was waning, think again. While we’re getting back to home deliveries from restaurants, there’s a section of society that has been struggling hard. Swiggy delivery executives in Chennai have been on a strike since Thursday night against the alleged change in wages and policies at the company. According to the protesting staff, Swiggy has slashed the wages from Rs 35 per order to only Rs 15 now. They further allege that they are not even being able to break even following the wage cuts.
What’s happening @swiggy_in ? How can you guys be so bad? Show Some humanity. It’s a request! #swiggystrike #swiggy #swiggychennai #RETWEEET #swiggyanswer pic.twitter.com/SacuaLWm6h

Swiggy users are clearly upset over the treatment of delivery executives. If there’s anything we know today, it’s that these executives are our source of happiness when they knock on our doors with food deliveries.

. @SwiggyCares @swiggy_in can you please address the #SwiggyStrike in Chennai? Absolutely appalling that during the pandemic when your delivery partners are legit heroes that you can’t pay them. Your brand seems to be consistently failing at every step. So completely sad.

600-700 trips to make Rs 10,000 a month?
Apparently Swiggy only pays ₹15/- per trip to its delivery people. Which means even to earn ₹10,000/- a delivery person has to make at least 600-700 trips. If each trip takes about half an hour so they are earning barely ₹30/- per hour 😱

If this is true, PAY YOUR EMPLOYESS ! If there is a business least affected by #COVID19 it’s yours , so there seems no reason for not paying them. Also reducing the incentive is total injustice !#Swiggy #swiggystrike— Aneesha (@aneesha_pillai) August 15, 2020
Delivery executives are the ‘frontline workers’ today
#Delivery staff are #frontlineworkers through this pandemic! @swiggy_in BE BETTER. We can’t afford to lose essential workers at this hour due to your incompetency. PAY YOUR STAFF BETTER! #swiggystrike #chennai

Most people are staying home to stay safe and depending upon these delivery executives for meals. When the staff isn’t paid well enough, can we really expect them to be out on the job?
Hi, @swiggy_in @SwiggyCares.
Swiggy is my most favorite app amongst food delivery apps. Kindly take action, help your employees, don’t harass them or I am never gonna use your app ever. #SwiggyStrike #Swiggy pic.twitter.com/QfhxtDC4OF— Ramandeep kaur (@raman_rk95) August 16, 2020
Instead of giving away vouchers, how about you give fare wages to the workers that make you the big corporation that you are today.@swiggy_in #swiggy #swiggystrike

And if you’re looking to make a contribution and help, here’s a suggestion:
Always tip your Swiggy, Zomato, Dunzo guys liberally. Always.
