Let me just start off by saying, Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls is my first time watching an interactive special. Yes, I have been living quite comfortably under a rock. And I am not sure I appreciate being pulled out from under it for almost two hours. Ranveer Singh decided to battle the wilderness of Siberia to find the rare Serbica Ramonda for his lady love, Deepika Padukone. Remember those highfalutin dialogues like, “Main tumhare liye saat samundar paar kar jaunga” or “main tumhare pyaar mein pahaad tod doonga“? Well, Ranveer Singh is doing just that. Read on to find out what Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls is like.

Dramatic AF

Yes, given that Ranveer Singh is the star of the show, theatrics are obvious. Even in the wilderness of Siberia, Ranveer manages to deliver on the drama. You can take the man out of Bollywood, but you can’t take Bollywood out of the man. The show is as wild, dramatic, and in parts unbelievable, as the man himself. Unfortunately, the wild only lasts for like 5-10 minutes. Since this is supposed to be Man vs Wild, I’ll be honest, I was hoping for some tough weather conditions or a few more wild animal encounters. At least, thanks to the interactive aspect of the show, I made Ranveer and Bear Grylls work a little harder.

On a different note, remember the Ram and Shyam story we read as school students, where playing dead in front of a bear will help you survive? It works, people! Now you can be assured all you need to get out of a bear attack is your fake death. The experts Ranveer and Bear have proven it themselves.

Romance in the wilderness

It takes a special kind of man to go all the way across the world, combat bears and wolves, and climb up and down mountains, just to get a small, rare flower. ‘Coz, like the Serbica Ramonda, Ranveer’s love for Deepika can also withstand any dire circumstances and revive itself from death. How romantic, don’t you think? I gotta find myself a Ranveer Singh! Ranveer mentioned Deepika so many times throughout the show that she almost seemed like a part of the cast wearing an invisibility cloak.

The love between Deepika and Ranveer is quite obvious. So much so that, at the end of it, I expected Deepika to come out and receive the flower from Ranveer. I’m salty that didn’t happen. In addition to the lovey-dovey couple, you also get a bromance between Ranveer Singh and Bear Grylls. From pappis and jhappis to cuddling together, Ranveer did not shy away from showering his love on Bear either.

Also, boring AF

Given the interactive nature of the show, I thought it’ll be more fun. But through most of the show, as Ranveer says, he was “talking smack in front of the camera”. And that gets repetitive quite fast. At the one-hour mark, I was just hoping for it to come to an end. Ranveer’s over-enthusiasm was quite exhausting, to be frank. I just wanted to tell the man to calm the fuck down. For someone who hasn’t had enough water or food for the better part of two days, the man had too much energy.

Well, if you want to kill some time doing nothing, give Ranveer vs Wild with Bear Grylls a shot. Else, there are better things to watch on Netflix.
