Released in 2014, Vikas Bahl’s iconic movie Queen still occupies a big space in people’s hearts, especially women. Starring Kangana Ranaut in the lead, Queen follows the life of Rani, a conservative girl from Delhi. This good, obedient woman’s life takes a sudden turn when her fiancé, Vijay, ends their relationship just before the wedding day. When everything felt like the end of the world, she went on a solo honeymoon to experience life. But Rani’s solo trip wouldn’t have been half as fun and transformative without Vijaylakshmi.
Rani met Vijayalakshmi aka VJ by chance in Paris. Featuring Lisa Haydon as Vijayalakshmi, the movie Queen shows the perfect female friendship every woman yearns for. Do you have a VJ in your life? Here’s why you need a carefree, loving best friend like Vijayalakshmi to survive adulthood.

1. Stops you from overthinking
Vijayalakshmi was a free spirit who didn’t care what people thought of her. This was evident from the hotel scene where she casually took out her cigarette and discussed her personal issues with a stranger, Rani. On the contrary, Rani was the queen of overthinking, imagining all the worst scenarios in a split second. So, VJ helped Rani to focus on herself without giving a crap about society’s opinions.
2. Becomes your unpaid therapist

From relationship drama to life crises, we all need someone who can listen to us without any judgement. Vijayalakshmi, in the movie Queen, became Rani’s friend therapist. She patiently listened to her breakup rant instead of running away to enjoy the party. And when she knew Rani must come out of the heartbroken lover phase, she dragged her to the dance floor.
3. Encourages you to have new experiences

A friend who exposes us to a new world is a blessing, as VJ was for Rani. Coming from a conservative family, Rani only saw the four walls of her home. This was also the main reason why Vijay left her. However, Vijayalakshmi made it a point to broaden Rani’s perspective of the world. From drag clubs to wild parties, she encouraged Rani to leave her comfort zone and experience different things.
4. Helps you tackle your nosy relatives

Let’s admit it, we all have a few annoying relatives who enjoy taunting and judging us in the name of love. While we can’t complain about them to our parents, we can rant with our bestie, right? In Rani’s case, VJ helps her survive her overdramatic relatives who only pretended to be sad about her broken relationship. In the end, they both laughed it off and chose happiness over judgement.
5. Becomes your soul sister

VJ wasn’t Rani’s blood relative. But she becomes the ideal sister Rani didn’t know she needed. When drunk Rani got a video call from her family, Vijayalakshmi covered up for her in front of her parents. VJ’s sis code is what every woman needs in her life. Furthermore, she reassured Rani when the latter was to leave for Amsterdam alone. VJ restored her confidence by saying, “Rani, India to Paris alone, this is only Amsterdam. And you are a very brave girl, you’ll be fine.”
6. Enhances your fashion sense

Is your bestie a fashion expert? Then you might not know how lucky you are. Queen‘s Vijayalakshmi was not only Rani’s soulmate but also her personal stylist. Even though Rani was hesitant to adopt a new style, VJ convinced her. The new look also boosted her self-confidence and gave her a bold vibe.
7. Accepts your flaws with love

VJ never questioned Rani for her orthodox thinking, she understood her as they came from the same desi roots with different upbringings. Even when Rani asked her to drink less or commented on her sex life, she simply ignored it. But at the same time, VJ tried to call her out with humour. She said, “Rani, everything is not so serious; you should be called a drama queen.”
Vijayalakshmi and Rani’s friendship proves that men and relationships might be temporary, but sisterhood is forever. And VJ’s dialogue, “Vijay nahin hai, so what? Vijayalaksmi toh hai” is a beautiful reminder of this in the film.
