The audience has been awaiting Sharan Sharma’s Mr & Mrs Mahi to witness the magic of cricket he brings to the screen. The lead couple Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor bring charming chemistry as Mr & Mrs Mahi. Their passion for cricket bonds them and creates a heartwarming tale. But does the movie hit it out of the park? Read this review of Mr & Mrs Mahi to find out.
Mr and Mrs Mahi’s two-in-one partnership
Mahendra Aggarwal (Rajkummar Rao) and Mahima Sharma (Janhvi Kapoor) come together through an arranged marriage. What really brings them together, though, is their passion and love for cricket. Mahendra wants to be a cricketer, but since he is an average player, he failed the selection two years in a row. His father doesn’t allow him a third chance and forces him to join their sports equipment business, crushing his dreams. He never talked of it again till the first night of his wedding. Mahima excuses herself to sleep early, only for Mahendra to find that she woke up to watch India playing against Australia. That’s how the two bond — over their love and passion for cricket. Unfortunately, due to the pressure from their respective families, the couple is stuck doing jobs they don’t like.
That’s the way, #themahiway
Once the couple realises that cricket is their calling, they put their faith in each other and quit their jobs. Mahendra knows that he can never excel as a player, so he decides to coach Mahima as she has the potential to be a star. Soon after, Mahima passes the state finals with flying colours and starts her journey towards success and fame. What she fails to realise, though, is that her husband wants fame and success for himself, and she is just a ladder for him to climb. It leads to tension between the couple and almost tears them apart. Mahima’s performance drops far enough that she’s on the verge of being taken off the team, nearly ending her cricketing career. So, will the love and passion for cricket bring them back together, or is this the end of Mr and Mrs Mahi’s passion and love?
Mr & Mrs Mahi has potential, but it lacks pace. While the lead couple, Janhvi and Rajkummar, have great chemistry, the supporting characters outshine them with their brilliant performances. These include Rajesh Sharma as Benny Dayal Shukla, Kumud Mishra as Hardayal Aggarwal, and Zarina Wahab as Geeta Aggarwal. The soundtrack of the movie is decent but mostly forgettable.
That’s all for Mr & Mrs Mahi‘s review. If you’re a cricket fan, you can definitely watch this in the cinemas for a one-time experience.
Can you watch it with your family?: Yes, you can watch Mr & Mrs Mahi with your family since the movie doesn’t have explicit scenes, except for one kissing scene.
