Yes, our collective guilty pleasure is back, beta ji. And what a lovely first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8! Uff, bachche. So many feelings I felt in every part of this episode. Such a magic. Ek toh your dear Aunty Eve loves this Ranveer Singh/Rocky Randhawa game. Beeba Munda haye main marjaawan edition! But after watching this episode, I think I like Deepika more now. Ranveer might be beeba munda, but Deepika is a dhaakad kudi. No, no, I’m not talking about her super-toned arms and those uffo abs. I’m talking about all that mental strength. I would have been a crying, snotty mess if I were in her place in this episode, bachche.

Anyway, apart from Rani Deepika, here’s everything else Aunty Eve loved about this refreshing Koffee With Karan.

“I’m marrying her, so I’ll ask her”

Oh ho, beta ji. This line by Ranveer just stole my heart only. When sabke uncle Karan Johar asked Ranveer Singh about the proposal, Ranveer, the good boy that he is, said that he didn’t even think of consulting Deepika’s parents before asking her to marry him. “I’m marrying her, so I’ll ask her” is just the simplest way to shatter this ridiculous idea that a girl’s parents have to give permission for her shaadi. Arre, she’s not planning to switch from Science to Humanities in school that her parents have to give permission. And even though Ranveer said ki haan chalo poochhna chahiye tha, I still support his decision of asking no one but her.

We finally know why Ram-Leela was so *ahem* steamy

Bachche, do you remember when Gulshan Devaiah, also another beeba munda, told us about Deepika sitting on Ranveer’s lap during Ram-Leela? Well, well, well. Apparently, there was a lot more to the story. And not all of it was beeba, if you know what I mean. Hehehehe.

The twist in the Deepika-Ranveer kahaani

Deepika and Ranveer’s story is like one mega Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie. With all the hawa, light effects, and the drama! Oh, the drama! I don’t know if you noticed but when Deepika mentioned that they met other people while they were “dating”, poor Ranveer bachcha‘s face was so shooketh. And then in a cute moment of harmless jealousy, he brought up her “2-3 other suitors”. Mmhmm.

Also, they had mummy-daddy drama too. Just like all of us. Because Deepika, like a proper South Indian girl, was scared to tell her parents that she went and got engaged to Rocky Randhawa without telling anyone. So when she did let it out, oh ho ho, she got a yelling from her mummy (rightfully so). And our poor boy had to try so very hard to win over his saasu. I can relate, Rocky, I can relate. The only difference here is that my saasu still hates me and I don’t care. Hehehehe.

The bravery, the partnership, and the confidence

You know, bachche, Aunty Eve is very rarely serious. But when DP and KJo started talking about depression, and Karan revealed that he is also on medication and had a breakdown very recently, it was all very brave and a little bit cry-ey. Yes, yes, Aunty Eve can also get senti. First DP made me teary, then KJo made me shed 2-3 of those tears, and then Ranveer just broke everything.

Beta ji, when he said, “If your intention is to protect, to give healing, to support, to help, to give security and to help this person, navigate it and be there for them. You can navigate just about anything in life, be it this illness or anything else”, there were rivers flowing from my eyes to the TV. You think you’re very strong? Watch this part of the episode and tell me you didn’t want to bury your head in your pillow all day and just sob.

Vibing to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

I know it was supposed to be a challenge and all that, but if I had been on the first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 8, I could have danced to Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham sad version very easily. It’s very vibey if you want it to be. Even Saigal Blues. When Aunty Eve is “mellow”, this is the song we dance to. I don’t know what the challenge here was, but I loved it and then I lived it. Hehehhe.

The wedding video, of course

Honestly, bachche, it’s been so long since their wedding that I had toh totally forgotten there would be a wedding video also. Who releases their shaadi ka tape after five years, batao? But that’s what RS and DP did. And finally, on October 26, 2023, we saw what happened in Italy in 2018. Too long, beta ji, too long. Especially since certain gems were kept from us. Like how Ranveer CRIED at the wedding. I mean, if you girls are still picking husbands who don’t cry when they see you dressed as a bride, I don’t know what to say. Just get up and leave the mandap, beta ji.

All in all, Aunty Eve loves this new and improved version of Koffee With Karan. And for the rest of you, the lesson here is to get yourself a husband who leers at you even after five years of marriage. What a naughty boy.
