Touted as Shilpa Shetty’s comeback, Hungama 2 has a stellar cast and had a lot of potential to be one of the funniest films of this year. Hungama 2 has all the right ingredients of a slapstick comedy, including Johnny Lever, Tiku Talsania, Rajpal Yadav, and the OG Priyadarshan who is known for his chaotic comedy films. Sadly, this combination has not worked here.
Ashutosh Rana plays a retired jailer who is a strict disciplinarian with his kids and grandkids. He hires tutors to handle his grandkids but the kids always drive them away. Unfortunately, this is also where Johnny Lever’s role ends.

Paresh Rawal plays Radhe who is constantly insecure about his wife, Anjali (Shilpa Shetty), and her loyalty to him. When Akash’s ex-girlfriend lands up with a child days before his engagement, and Anjali tries to help him out, chaos ensues. While Akash’s family try to keep Vaani (Pranitha Subhash) and her child a secret, Radhe thinks his wife is having an affair with Akash. As expected, chaos ensues.
Most of the characters don’t really add much to the film, including the protagonist Akash (Meezan Jaffrey). Parts of the film drag on for far too long and the makers have assumed that audiences haven’t matured since 2003. This brand of humour, ridiculous stereotypes, misogyny, and bland mystery doesn’t work anymore. Just adding a few lines to make it sound like the film is set in 2020 isn’t enough.
And the remix of Chura Ke Dil Mera just makes the whole experience of watching this film much worse.
If you’d like to put yourself through this, Hungama 2 is streaming now on Disney+ Hotstar.
