Doing your makeup in a desi household should be declared an Olympic sport. With your father ranting about getting late and your younger sister crying to get her makeup done, it’s not a surprise that you might ruin your makeup. But you know what’s worse than that? When, amidst all this kalesh, you accidentally smudge your favourite dress with foundation or drop a dollop of lipstick on it. And as much as a blessing waterproof makeup is, it’s also a curse in times like these. So, if you’re wondering how to remove makeup stains from clothes, I have some foolproof ways to get rid of them.

The foundation that blends perfectly on your skin looks ghastly on your clothes. And the oil-based, long-wear formulas can be especially stubborn, so here’s what you should do:

1. Speed is the key. Sprinkle talcum powder or corn flour over the stain to absorb excess oil. Let it sit for a few minutes, then brush it off before washing.

2. If the stain has dried, apply shaving gel on the stain and gently rub it in. Let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse with cold water. It works like magic.

3. If you don’t have shaving gel, use an oil-free makeup remover or makeup brush cleaning liquid. Rub the stain gently and rinse with lukewarm water.

Lipstick can survive hours of eating and talking, so naturally, it doesn’t come off clothes easily. Smudges from creamy or matte lipsticks need special treatment. Here’s what to do:

1. If the stain is fresh, dab (don’t rub!) the stain with a baby wipe or micellar water on a cotton pad.

2. If the stain has already dried, take some Vaseline or coconut oil, gently rub it on the stain, and wipe off the excess with a tissue before washing the fabric with detergent.

3. If nothing works, hairspray can help break down the stain. Spray it directly on the mark, dab with a cotton pad, and wait a minute. Repeat the process if needed.

How to remove kajal stains

A single swipe of kajal enhances your eyes, but it can also leave behind deep black stains that refuse to budge. Here’s what to do to get rid of the stain:

1. Dab a little bit of makeup remover or micellar water on a cotton pad and blot the stain.

2. If that doesn’t work, mix a little dishwashing liquid with warm water and rub gently.

3. For cotton or white fabrics, a baking soda paste (baking soda + a little water) works wonders. Apply, let it sit for 15 minutes, and rinse.

Waterproof eyeliners and mascaras are a makeup enthusiast’s dream until they get on your clothes. Here’s how to get rid of this nightmare:

1. Firstly, just scrape off all the excess product. Then use a bit of rubbing alcohol or makeup remover on a cotton swab and blot the stain.

2. If you’re dealing with waterproof mascara, mix a bit of liquid detergent with warm water and soak the stain for 10 minutes before washing.

3. For wool or silk fabrics, try dabbing the stain with a mixture of white vinegar and water.

How to remove blush and eyeshadow stains

Powdered blush and eyeshadow are all fun and games until they decide to decorate your outfit. But powdered makeup is easier to remove, so here’s what to do:

1. Brush off excess powder first. Rubbing will only make it worse.

2. For light stains, dab with a piece of fresh bread. Sounds odd, but the bread works like a sponge.

3. For deeper stains, mix a bit of shampoo with water, apply it on the stain, and gently scrub before rinsing.

Makeup stains can be annoying, but these tricks make removing makeup stains from your clothes easy. These makeup-removing hacks will keep your clothes spotless and stress-free!
