It doesn’t matter whether you wear makeup or not; you still need to have a solid skincare routine. I know we all get lazy when it comes to a nighttime skincare routine. However, one step that everyone should inculcate in their night skincare is a good night cream. It helps in keeping skin hydrated throughout the night and repairs the damage your skin suffers during the day. But choosing the right night cream is not easy, and a lot of people don’t know what to look for and what to avoid. Here is the only list you need when you’re trying to figure out how to choose the right night cream.
1. No SPF
First things first, make sure the cream that you choose doesn’t have any SPF in it. We don’t need to apply any sunscreen at night, so look for creams without any UV protection.
2. Make sure it’s lightweight
Who likes a heavy layer of cream, especially at night? I don’t. Make sure whichever cream you choose deeply penetrates your skin and is lightweight. If you have oily skin, it’s always better to choose a gel-based night cream.
3. Know your skin type
You must know what your skin needs and what kind it is–oily, dry, dry combination, or oily combination. Every skin type requires a different set of ingredients. For dry skin, it always better to invest in a night cream that has vegetable oil in it. Glycerine-based creams work wonderfully well for dry skin. Meanwhile, just like I said before, if you have oily skin, gel-based creams will be your new BFF.
4. Does it do the job you want it to do?
Choose your night cream depending on what you want it to do. If you are in your 20s, your main focus should be on essential oils and ingredients like honey and aloe vera as these will help with hydration and skin elasticity. If you are in your 30s, it’s always wiser to invest in a cream that has ingredients like amino acids, retinol, and ceramides. For people in their 40s, invest in a cream that can revive your skin, so look for ingredients like peptides and soy extract.
5. Know what’s bad for you
If you have sensitive skin, avoid creams with a strong fragrance as it can trigger acne and rashes. Along with that, make sure the cream doesn’t have any alcohol content as it can be harsh on the skin.
6. Do your research
Before buying anything, it’s always important that you do proper research about a product, whether it’s the price, ingredients, or how well it works. Read reviews online, go through what people think about a particular product, ask your friends for recommendations and the reasons behind these choices, and make your decision.
Some of the night creams that we recommend are:
Kama Rejuvenating and Brightening Ayurvedic Night Cream, Body Shop Vitamin E Nourishing Night Cream, Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Ageing Revitalising Night Skin Cream, and Clinique Repairwear Intensive Night Cream
