No matter how careful you are with gloves and “skin-friendly” dishwashing liquids, their impact on the skin is clearly visible. If you look closely, you’ll notice shallow cuts and peeling skin on your palms. In times like these, you only wish you had some magic mantras to help you deal with it all. But while that’s not happening, what you can do is take care of your skin with simple home remedies. We’ve got some pretty cool tips for the perfect homemade moisturiser for dry skin. Some might even remind you of the age-old daadi maa ke nuskhe! Try these and bring your hands back to normal again.

1. Shea butter homemade moisturiser for dry skin

Ingredients:

  1. Shea butter – 1/2 cup
  2. Sea buckthorn oil – 5-7 drops
  3. Rosehip seed oil – 5-7 drops
  4. Avocado oil – 1 tsp

Method:

  1. Melt the shea butter in a double boiler till it softens.
  2. Once it cools, add avocado oil and essential oils.
  3. Whip the mixture till it becomes creamy.
  4. Store in a glass jar.

2. Hibiscus tea moisturiser for dry skin

Ingredients:

  1. Hibiscus tea – 2 tbsp
  2. Extra virgin coconut oil – 1 cup

Procedure:

  1. Melt the coconut oil in a double boiler.
  2. Grind the hibiscus tea into powder, add it to the melted oil, and cover the mixture for a while.
  3. Using a cheesecloth, strain the mixture separating the hibiscus tea powder from the oil.
  4. Once the oil cools and solidifies, blend it in a mixer for two minutes.
  5. Transfer and store the cream in a glass jar.

3. Oil-based moisturiser for dry skin

Ingredients:

  1. Coconut oil – 1/2 cup
  2. Olive oil – 1/2 cup
  3. Any essential oil – 10 drops

Method:

  1. Using a mixer, blend the coconut oil and olive oil to bring it to a smooth, clear texture.
  2. Add the essential oil.
  3. Mix well till there’s no separation between the oil layers.
  4. Transfer and store the moisturising oil in a glass jar and use a few drops before bed every night.

4. Aloe vera, coconut oil and almond oil moisturiser

Ingredients:

  1. Coconut oil – 1/2 cup
  2. Almond oil – 1/2 cup
  3. Aloe vera gel – 1 cup

Method:

  1. Melt coconut oil in a double boiler and leave aside to cool.
  2. Once it cools, add the almond oil and aloe vera gel to it.
  3. Blend the mixture in a mixer to get a smooth texture.
  4. Store the mixture in a glass jar in a refrigerator and use it as a moisturising balm.

5. Homemade shea butter and tea tree oil cream

Ingredients:

  1. Shea butter – 1/2 cup
  2. Almond oil – 2 tbsp
  3. Lavender essential oil –  10 drops
  4. Tea tree essential oil – 3 drops

Method:

  1. Melt the shea butter in a double boiler and add the almond oil to it gradually to make a smooth paste.
  2. Let the mixture cool slightly before adding the essential oils. Do not let it solidify.
  3. Using a whisker, whip the cream in smooth circular motions to get a creamy texture.
  4. Store the cream in a glass jar.
