The real thrill lies in the second half
The movie’s first half is about introducing the characters and setting the scene. But it is also painfully dull. Dr Freddy Ginwala (Kartik Aaryan) is a dentist with his own practice. He is a shy and lonely man in his late 20s, who has been failing in love. He is waiting for his soulmate without any success. When he sees Kainaaz Irani (Alaya F) at a wedding, he falls in love with her at first sight. Kainaaz is in an abusive relationship where her husband constantly hits her and is suspicious of her. Frustrated and upset with her marital life, Kainaaz finds solace in the warmth and love that Freddy gives her. But there’s more to their affair than secret liaisons and tender moments.
The real thrill of the movie starts in the second half. Though fairly predictable, the second half of Freddy still manages to grab your attention. The actors have done a fairly commendable job, and the eerieness of the film shines through in the second half.
Kartik Aaryan brings out the creepy factor
Freddy is unlike any other character Kartik Aaryan has portrayed, and he does justice to the role to a large extent. Unlike his comedy movies like Pyaar Ka Punchnama, where he is a loud character going on long rants, Freddy is the complete opposite. Freddy Ginwala is a man of few words, but he is also painfully shy and unable to speak up even when he is being humiliated. Despite the quietness of Freddy, there is a creepiness to the character that Kartik Aaryan manages to bring out. The actor has stepped out of his comfort zone and that is commendable.
While Freddy is certainly not the best movie out on an OTT platform right now, it is worth a watch if you enjoy psychological thrillers.
