A brand new set of Emmy award winners have been announced, and we all know what that means. It’s time to make a whole new binge list for the next weekend. Apart from all the new content, we also need to be able to brag at the next party and talk intelligently about the latest set of award-winning shows. So what if you’d never heard of them before? It’s never too late to catch up! We went through the whole list of Emmys 2021 nominees and made this list just for you.

1. Mom

This show has been on for years and it never gets old. The complicated and hilarious relationship between a mother and daughter is the centre of this show. While they deal with alcoholism, poverty, terrible jobs, and more kids, eccentric Bonnie (Allison Janney) and thoroughly exhausted Christy (Anna Faris) make a formidable pair who will keep you entertained through the series.

2. Black-ish

An affluent family tries to adjust to their neighbourhood while trying to retain their traditions and culture. As the kids grow up and the parents progress in their careers, the adjustments become even harder. Enter the grandparents who promise to make things better, but they come with their own quirks.

3. Ted Lasso

A small-time American football coach is hired to coach an English Premier League team, despite having no experience in British soccer. The only reason he is hired is that the owner of the team wants to spite her ex-husband by ruining the team he loved. Eventually, his folksy demeanour charms the people around him as he gets the hang of the game.

4. The Kominsky Method

Acting coach Sandy Kominsky and his friend, agent Norman Newlander tackle the many trials and tribulations of life together. But they’re not the typical old men you see in other shows and movies. One of them is still too young at heart and the other is trying to catch up.

5. Pose

In 1987 New York, LGBTQ ball fixture Blanca starts her own house, a network of dancers and models competing with others. Blanca soon becomes a mother to a gifted dancer and a sex worker in love with a client. This drama series also tackles several issues which were at the forefront in the US in the late 80s and early 90s, including AIDS and the severely damaging misinformation around it.

6. Mare of Easttown

One of the favourites at the Emmys 2021, Mare of Easttown is the story of a small-town detective, Mare, and her continuing struggles in her personal and professional life which often intertwine. As she starts investigating a murder in her town, an old case continues to haunt her.

7. I May Destroy You

Staying true to its title, this is a series that can literally destroy you. As a young writer tries to recall the events of a night out with friends, the show goes on a disturbing journey riddled with dark humour. Before you watch, please be warned that sexual assault is one of the central themes of the show.

8. The Mandalorian

An American space Western series, The Mandalorian is part of the Star Wars franchise. Pedro Pascal stars as the title character, a bounty hunter on the run. He is hired to retrieve a child but instead chooses to protect and return the child to his own people.

9. In Treatment

A reimagining of the series that ended in 2010, In Treatment features Dr Brooke Taylor, a therapist based in Los Angeles. As she deals with complications in her own life, Brooke undertakes various including the pandemic and recent social issues.

10. The Handmaid’s Tale

A dystopian series based on Margaret Atwood’s book of the same name, The Handmaid’s Tale is a must watch but it is also deeply disturbing. As a totalitarian society forces a section of women to become child-bearing slaves, one woman, forced into slavery, aims to reunite with her husband and daughter, no matter what.
