Bachche, you know I work hard. Very much hard! But sometimes, even Super Aunties need a break. So, today, in the middle of the day on a Friday, I decided to watch Dream Girl 2 all by myself. And thank all the gods for that, because even though I am very beautiful and perfect in every way, the laugh that came out of my mouth could have scared anyone away. That Chandigarh boy, Ayushmann Khurrana, is such a chhupa rustam. I thought he’s only good at social causes and all that, but he is such a funny boy. Chandigarh must be proud today!
But it wasn’t just him, you know. There were so many other people who made Aunty Eve laugh (if we can still call it that) while watching Dream Girl 2.
Jagjit (Annu Kapoor)
Karam/Pooja’s daddy, Jagjit, is forever ready to pimp out his son for money. Beta ji, the last time I met someone with such poor parenting skills, I was at Mrs Duggal’s house. IYKYK, hehehe. Anyway, if making his son a bar dancer and someone’s wife wasn’t enough, Jagjit is also ready to tie the knot himself. With his son’s bua-in-law. All this sounds very morbid, beta ji, but with a dash of loud Bollywood humour added to the scene, it becomes a massive LOL.
Smiley (Manjot Singh)
Karam’s BFF Smiley doesn’t judge (love), is supportive (love even more), and is manipulative while being supportive (best). Smiley is true to his name and is the source of so much drama, all so that he can marry Sakina. But even during his own struggle, he finds time to support his friend’s dream of marrying Pari, even if he manages to use this dream to his own advantage. Aunty Eve loves an angelic devil, bachche.
Abbu Daddy (Paresh Rawal)
Yes, yes. I know this isn’t his actual name in Dream Girl 2, but that’s the one I remember, thanks to Smiley. It’s also my new name for my FIL now. So inclusive, no? Abbu Daddy is also an inclusive character. He’s completely okay with his Muslim daughter marrying a Sikh boy and his Muslim son marrying a Hindu girl. Yes, he has his problems, like being obsessed with his son’s love life and wanting a grandchild asap. But even in those moments, he managed to make me LOL. Which is huge. Aunty Eve doesn’t take too well to shaadi-bachcha-obsessed people.
Jumani (Seema Pahwa)
Not a character I was expecting to see, but she had her moments. Not sweet moments, bachche. Evil moments that also made me LOL because, well, your Aunty Eve has a dark side. Hehehe. Jumani is the bua I wish I had. She changes husbands like night suits and feels absolutely no shame about it. I also think she lost count of the number of kids she has. Even then, Jumani is scouting for a new husband and will not stop till she gets one. She is also bachcha-obsessed, but who can blame her at this point?
Pari (Ananya Panday)
Calm down, bachche. Ananya Panday has not grown wings of talent overnight. The only reason Aunty Eve even noticed her presence in the movie is because a) her papa is the cause of all kalesh, and b) the last scene with the dulhan bringing a gorgeous boat baraat is just #goals. Otherwise, she is not funny or dramatic or terrible. Dream Girl 2 would’ve been the same with or without Chunky’s kudi. At this point, maybe she should think of becoming a producer.
Dream Girl 2 is running in theatres now, bachche. Take the whole khandaan and enjoy.
Can you watch Dream Girl 2 with family? Yes, of course. You might have to explain some of the humour to your sadu Gen Z cousins though.
