Popular TV shows have given us innumerable couples that everyone loves. From Tulsi-Mihir to Prerna-Anurag, there are a whole bunch of couples who are considered the epitome of true love. But, do they really deserve that tag? Hindi TV serials love to portray toxic relationships as #couplegoals. There’s nothing and no one as forgiving as Hindi TV show characters. Here are some of the popular TV couples that should have never ended up together.

1. Tejo – Fateh
Tejo and Fateh from the popular show Udaariyan have made a place in everyone’s hearts. Even though the character’s arcs have ended in the show, they are still loved by the audience. But let’s be honest, Tejo and Fateh are a couple who shouldn’t have ended up together. The very start of their relationship was less than ideal. Fateh was forced to marry Tejo after the love of his life Jasmine dumped him on the day of the wedding. Even after marriage, Fateh started an affair with Jasmine. Not to mention, he constantly suspected Tejo of having an affair, was uncommunicative, and all around a crappy partner. This couple would have been better off apart than together.
2. Sai – Virat
Another beloved couple of ITV, Sai and Virat from Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin were better off apart than together. They got married because of duty rather than love, neither of them really trusted each other and didn’t ever understand the meaning of communication. Virat was already in love with a woman he met for two days at a yoga retreat, who later becomes his sister-in-law. Sai was an 18-year-old fresh-out-of-school girl who had to get married after her father was killed in action. Virat’s family repeatedly verbally abused Sai and he rarely ever defended her. He also constantly sided with his first love, Patralekha, and was an insecure tool which led to Sai being hospitalised thrice. They spent more time fighting and arguing with each other than being in love. The man had more compassion and understanding for his ex-crush than he ever did for his wife. Sai had her share of problems too, she also never tried to understand Virat at certain points, but to be frank, Virat was a worse character than Sai.
3. Sanju – Neetii
If there was ever a couple that shouldn’t even have existed, it is Sanju and Neetii from the show Parineetii. Sanju is an absolute cheat. For his own nefarious purposes, he first married Parineet and then abandoned her. Later, he fell in love with Neetii and married her. Now Pati, Patni 1, and Patni 2 are living together in the same house with Patni 1 being the surrogate mother to her husband and best friend. Sanju and Parineet knowingly keep Neettii in the dark, Neetii believes her husband and best friend are having an affair and does everything in her power to throw Pari out of the house, and Sanju is sitting around enjoying it all. Sanju and Neetii are the prime definition of everything a relationship shouldn’t be and not the epitome of true love.
4. Prerna – Anurag
Prerna and Anurag are one of the iconic TV couples that everyone loves. Why? That’s a mystery. There’s more drama in their lives than on a theatrical stage. The Kasautii Zindagii Kay couple, though considered one of the best romantic couples on screen, shouldn’t have reunited even in death. Sure, they love each other and would do anything for each other, even throwing one another off a cliff. But is that what true love really looks like? Misunderstanding each other, not clearing things out, and letting other people come in between? Prerna and Anurag did everything two people in healthy relationships shouldn’t do.
5. Gopi – Ahem
For a show named Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, it constantly portrays how the saathiya never nibhaaos saath. It is also a lesson in not getting married just because your parents force you to. The only reason Gopi and Ahem got married was because the latter’s mother Kokila forced him to. They have nothing in common and are on very different wavelengths. Ahem is an ambitious and well-educated businessman while Gopi hasn’t even finished her schooling. Ahem is in love with someone else when he gets married to Gopi, and well, Gopi didn’t even know anything about herself and her desires, let alone anything else. Ahem had serious attitude problems and Gopi put up with it all because Ahemji knows best.
6. Anupamaa – Anuj
Anupamaa and Anuj have been heartthrobs from the time the duo got together. And why wouldn’t they, Anupamaa finally found love after 25 years of a toxic marriage, and Anuj ka 26 saal ka pyaar poora hua. But, in true tyaag ki murat, Anupamaa didn’t let the relationship grow as it should have. Despite marrying a good man like Anuj, who respected her and supported her in her dreams, Anupamaa was more interested in being the best-ever ex-daughter-in-law. She spent more time with Mr Shah and his family than Anuj and their adopted daughter, Chhoti Anu. That’s not to say Anuj is completely faultless. When Chhoti’s biological mother Maya comes back, Anuj is also more interested in taking care of her despite her obsessive behaviour. So, no matter how much they “love” each other, they really are better apart.
