Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ is an anthem for 90s kids across the globe. But what if we told you that the iconic track actually had desi roots?
Yes, you heard that right. Song Psych, an Instagram and TikTok based music show recently revealed how the world has Bollywood to thank for Britney’s biggest hit. Turns out the track’s unmistakable string hook was actually made using sections of a Hindi song, “Tere Mere Beech Mein”.

Though Song Psych’s revelation went viral just recently, Britney Spears’ ‘Toxic’ origin story was covered by Insider last year. Carnatic vocalist Manasi Prasad explained how “Tere Mere Beech Mein” is based on an Indian classical raga that is often used to convey feelings of intense emotions.
