Bhumi Pednekar is a very unique phenomenon in Bollywood, bachche. Don’t you think? She started with such a simple character in Dum Laga Ke Haisha and now look at her! She’s doing things no other woman in Bollywood is doing. She’s taking chances and not holding back. Some people don’t like that about Bhumi. Very “ladki haath se nikal gayi” energy. Even I wonder sometimes if Bhumi is on the right track. And after watching Royals, I have a few observations.
Oh ho, so bold
That’s what Mrs Duggal said when she watched Bhumi Pednekar in The Royals. As usual, she was just jealous. I can’t even imagine the confidence it takes to do what Bhumi does. It’s a good thing that girls are now able to let go of useless inhibitions and give their 100% to their craft without feeling duniya bhar ki izzat ka bhaar on their shoulders. India’s sanskaar sipahis still get crazy angry when they see a woman enjoying sex on screen. But they love it when a dukhiyaari didi is exploited in every way possible by everyone around her. Boldness is a good thing, bachche. Duniya boldness se hi line pe aati hai.

She’s looking a little bit kamzor but…
What is that run on the beach in Royals? Subah subah itni speed that she outran a horse? If I run like that, despite my blossoming sehat, it will take me two days to catch my breath. And those shots of abs? Yes, multiple abs. Not the single ab you and I flaunt every day hehe. I haven’t even dreamt of abs like Bhumi’s, let alone ever been close to having them. Itni fitness kahaan se aa gayi? Give tips, Bhumi bachche.

She seems to be a bit aloof
Jo hona bhi chahiye. People really hate to see a woman thriving on her own terms. Comments dekhein hain on social media after Royals? Same thing happened after Thank You For Coming.
“Oh ho, what has happened to Bhumi? She used to be a good actor” and more blah blah blah. Diversity na dikhaaye actor? Ek jaise roles hi karte rahein? The problem with us is that as long as a female actor is doing serious “grounded” roles, we think she’s an actor. But if she plays a character who doesn’t go through serious life-changing incidents or isn’t out to teach the world a lesson, we think acting chhod di hai and now she’s only doing it for the money. So, if Bhumi seems unaffected by such criticism, I say good for her.
As the kids today say, you do you, Bhumi. While the uncles and aunties froth at the mouth about sharm and haya, you laugh and count your millions.
