But do you know Ravi Kishan wasn’t the first choice for this role? In a newly-launched YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, director Kiran Rao revealed a surprising fact about Laapataa Ladies. While talking about the film’s initial casting, Rao said Aamir Khan was the first person to audition for the role of Shyam Manohar. But he was rejected. Why?

Aamir Khan’s audition for Laapataa Ladies
Kiran Rao rejected Aamir Khan as he didn’t fit the role perfectly. However, she revealed that it was Aamir who came up with the idea of what Shyam Manohar’s character should be like. He even dressed up as a cop to bring his thought to life. In the audition tape shared by his YouTube channel, it shows Aamir Khan in a police uniform with his hair oiled and neatly combed. To add to the character, he even chewed paan and spoke in a rural accent. However, he failed to do complete justice to the role as Ravi Kishan eventually did.

When Kiran Rao remained unconvinced by Aamir’s audition, she went on the hunt to find a suitable match for this difficult role. And that’s when Ravi Kishan came into the picture. With his Bhojpuri accent and outstanding acting, he nailed the role. The scene where he takes a stand for Jaya (Pratibha Ranta) while casually chewing paan remains one of the most loved moments in the film. And rightfully so, Kishan has recently been awarded the Best Supporting Actor for Laapataa Ladies at IIFA’s 25th edition. His heartwarming speech at the award function left everyone inspired and in awe of him.
