Here’s a list of items that are not allowed on domestic flights in India, so you can start your honeymoon relaxed and hassle-free.
Carry-on bag: What’s allowed?
Let’s start with what’s allowed in your carry-on so you can keep the essentials close by.
Carry valid government IDs, boarding passes, and tickets (printed or digital). Essential medications are allowed, but liquid ones over 100ml may require a doctor’s note.
1. Smartphones, tablets, laptops, chargers and power banks
Electronics are welcome on flights but must be out of the bag during security checks. Keep power banks in your carry-on bag, as power banks are not permitted in checked baggage.
2. Toiletries
Carry travel-sized shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and skincare essentials. Each must be in a container of 100 ml or less and packed in a clear, resealable plastic bag.
3. Perfume and aftershave
Small 100 ml bottles are allowed, so bring your signature scent to keep that honeymoon romance alive.
4. Cigarettes
You can also carry cigarettes in your carry-on bag. However, e-cigarettes or vapes are completely prohibited in carry-on as well as check-in bags.
Checked baggage: What’s allowed?
1. Clothing and personal belongings
Pack all your clothes, shoes, and accessories in checked luggage if they’re non-fragile and fit the weight limit (15 kg for most airlines). Hair dryers, curling irons, and razors are also allowed in checked baggage.
2. Liquids over 100ml
Larger bottles of sunscreen, shampoo, and body wash can go in your checked baggage without issue. Just make sure they’re packed tightly to avoid any messy surprises.
3. Alcoholic beverages
You’re allowed to carry a limited quantity (up to 5 litres) of alcohol in checked baggage, so you can bring a bottle of wine or champagne for a special evening. However, the alcohol level of these drinks should not be more than 70%.
4. Heavy items like tripods or larger gadgets
If you plan to capture memories with a larger camera, drone, or tripod, pack these in checked baggage (make sure drones comply with local regulations). Tripods are generally allowed but may be inspected separately. Laptops are also allowed.
Items not allowed on domestic flights in India
To avoid any honeymoon hiccups, here’s what you should avoid packing entirely.
1. Sharp objects
Knives, scissors, blades, and other sharp objects are strictly banned in carry-on luggage.
2. Flammable items
Lighters, matchboxes, and any flammable liquid are forbidden in both carry-on and checked baggage. Skip the candles too, no matter how romantic they seem.
3. Excessive cash and expensive jewellery
While you can carry valuables, it’s best to limit them to avoid security hassles or misplacement. A few statement pieces are ideal for those honeymoon dinners, but try to leave any bulky jewellery at home. Also, if you want to carry heavy jewellery in carry-on bags, you need proper documentation.
4. Self-defence weapons
Pepper spray, stun guns, and other self-defence items cannot be carried onboard.
5. Sports equipment
Certain sports items such as baseball bats, hockey sticks, and other similar equipment are prohibited in the cabin.
For a more detailed list of items not allowed on domestic flights in India, check this list of prohibited articles by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Though all airlines follow BCAS rules, slight variations might occur depending on the airlines and destination.
