Congratulations! Your kundlis matched. You’ve booked the makeup artist, picked out the perfect designer lehenga, and are knee-deep in wedding prep. But hold on — there’s something crucial to add to your endless to-do list — a comprehensive medical test for all brides.

These premarital medical tests for brides can save you a world of trouble later on and make sure that you’re entering your marriage with total transparency.

1. Blood Group and Rh Factor Test

The Rh factor plays a pivotal role in family planning. If you and your partner have different Rh factors (one being positive and the other being negative), it can lead to complications in pregnancy down the line. However, it is manageable with Rh immune globulin (RhIg or RhoGAM) injections.

2. Complete Blood Count (CBC)

CBC is a blood test that checks for anaemia, infections, and other blood-related issues. With all that wedding stress (and skipped meals), you don’t want to run low on energy. Also, it doesn’t affect just you; conditions like thalassemia could affect future babies, too.

3. TORCH Test

Planning to jump straight into #BabyGoals after the wedding? The TORCH test is your secret weapon. It is a group of blood tests that screen for Toxoplasmosis, Rubella, CMV, and Herpes — all infections that can lead to complications like miscarriage or premature birth. Think of it as a safety net for your future family planning.

4. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Screening

Getting tested for STIs before marriage is about protecting your and your partner’s health. Even if you haven’t been sexually active, some STIs can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact. STI screening includes blood tests, urine tests, and oral and genital swabs. Your doctor will perform one of them or more based on your sexual history.

5. Pap Smear and HPV Test

Pap smear test, also called cervical cytology, is a method that collects cervical cells to check if they have been affected by human papillomavirus. The Pap smear checks for precancerous cells, while the HPV test looks for the virus that could cause cervical cancer. Both are essential for your reproductive health and staying ahead of the game.

6. Diabetes Test

Uncontrolled diabetes can complicate pregnancy and fertility — not what you want when planning for your happily ever after. Preeclampsia, the risk of miscarriage, and birth defects in babies like heart and lung issues can result from undiagnosed diabetes. This simple test can give you peace of mind (and an excuse to treat yourself to that pre-wedding dessert).

Remember, it’s not just about looking fabulous on your big day but feeling great for the long haul.
