It’s 2022, and the idea of feminism and empowered women has kinda shifted to bigger, more well-rounded themes. But apparently, Bollywood still believes that the quickest way to show empowerment and equality is by removing the desiness of women. From wearing modern clothes, talking rudely to their family members in the name of not taking their shit, to sipping alcohol, this story isn’t anything new or empowering. Cooking, cleaning, and looking after the house–the suppressed woman starter pack
The leading ladies are all (un)happily married and are dealing with the regular jhaadu, pocha, safai, and taane from their in-laws. While Neha (Shikha Talsania) is dealing with her unfaithful husband’s behaviour, Shivangi (Swara Bhaskar) works around the clock because they can’t afford a maid. And then there’s Sakhina (Pooja Chopra) who constantly deals with divorce threats from her husband because she can’t give him a child but the truth is that her husband is the problem. Last but not least is Mansi (Meher Vij), the gang leader of the girls who is rich and keeps her husband dancing on her fingers. Clearly, she is the most empowered and wants her girls to feel the same.
So, to get them out of their behaal life, she fakes an illness and asks them to come to visit her as her last wish. And the girls beg, plead, and cry to get permission from their families to go to Mumbai to see their friend. But on the way, a completely healthy Mansi surprises them. She just fakes all of it to take the girls on a trip to Goa and away from their mundane routines.
Girls’ vacation and massive chaos are besties for life
Now that the girls are out of their homes, they are freaking out about lying to their families. But the very empowered Mansi teaches them how to end family phone calls with a quick TTYL. Also, add some booze because how else can women have fun and look modern without a beer in their hands? So, one thing leads to another and the ladies end up befriending a hot foreigner. And he conveniently convinces them to have a party at their resort, because what else do you do in Goa? Now, obviously, you’ve gotta throw common sense out of the window and trust a random foreign dude ’cause he’s hot. And since the ladies are clearly missing action in their lives, it fits in perfectly. So much for being empowered and taking charge of their lives!
As the fun begins, the ladies shed their shyness and the random dude sheds his clothes which is exactly the purpose of a girls’ trip, right? But being the sati savitri shaadi shuda nari, Shivangi storms off from the room because she can’t commit this paap. And all the ladies run behind her to make her come back to the steamy fun. But as they return, they spot the random dude dead on the floor. What follows next is some crazy drama, over-the-top acting, and a lot of mess.
Jahaan Chaar Yaar is stale, repetitive, and might be funny in bits, but that’s about it. Jahaan Chaar Yaar is now in cinemas near you.
